This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • Good So Far - 2003 Ford Expedition

We bought this SUV when our first child was born as the family truckster for taking everyone and everything to the beach, grandmas house, etc. This vehicle is what it is: a giant mover of people and stuff with the aerodynamics of a cinder block. If you dont ask it to be anything other than that, its fine. Has been reliable and comfortable to drive, with good seats, a soft rear independent suspension and a nice tight turning radius. Holds my family (we have since added a 2nd child) and all our stuff. When we get where we are going and the stuff comes out, the rear seats fold up and we can carry more people.

I love this truck. Bought it used in 2005 with 30,000 miles. After 2 1/2 years and adding 33,000 miles, had to replace the alternator...thats it. Fully loaded with passangers and luggage, and pulling a 20 foot ski boat it still gets almost 17 mpg (4.6L engine). Love the 4 wheel disc brakes. Has a very tight turning radius, very easy to park.

This is the first Brand New vehicle I have purchased. The size fit my family perfect. Previous SUV was a 95 Explorer XLT, no problems. I have had a laundry list of problems. 1. Leak in cooling system. 2. Serpentine belt shreded. 3. Paint flaking off front bumper. 4. 4x4 not working property 5. Replace Muffler 6. Rear Vents squeek/gring when opening/closing. Nissan Pathfinder ARMADA here I come!

Two weeks after the purchase: Rear wiper no longer works Pax window didnt roll up. 2 coils had to be replaced four weeks after purchase: New battery. New alternator six weeks after purchase: "CD Error" on CD player This truck is more trouble than its worth. Why cant the local dealership fix it right. It seems they plan these breakdowns to get more money. One more thing goes wrong and I am selling the damn thing.

  • Front Seats E. Bauer - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Vehicle is great. Much better than old design, Bur front seat is not designed coeerctly for a tall driver. Have had nothing but lower back pain since I bought it. My old E Bauer was very nice. I wish I had the old seat back. Take a long test drive before you buy.

  • Holds a load - 2003 Ford Expedition

It will hold a large family with ease-6 grandchildren and a 10 yr. old daughter- no problem -I could not imagine owning a vehicle with out a DVD player. Gas mileage has been averaging about 16 mpg. I was rear ended by a compact vehicle last year, it just bounced off, left me with a scratched bumper which their insurance paid for

Overall this is a great family vehicle. The exterior look sold me on the purchase. The Eddie Bauer has many cool features, and the dvd system is great for the kids. The brake dust on the front tires sucks, and I could have done without the advance trac.

Big difference in size compared to explorer. Definitely very roomy. Handles like a big box on wheels. Smooth acceleration.

  • Wish Id bought another Suburban - 2003 Ford Expedition

Outside body cladding at bottom of doors rattle which is very noisy at 70 mph. I fixed with duct tape because dealer doesnt know how to repair. Already had 4WD go out after only 5000 miles. Good looking truck, lots of towing capacity, but Ford needs to work on quality. My next truck will be a Chevy.

  • Love my Car - 2003 Ford Expedition

Very comfortable, great ride, could use extra trunk space. When opening the back hatch after grocery shopping, make sure you are on a flat surface or the groceries will exit the car by themselves!
