This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • Rattle cause by BAD TIRES - 2003 Ford Expedition

I LOVE MY EB EXPEDITION. The tires SUCK!!! If you have rattle go to your ford dealership and get your tires tested for "road force". I was getting the rattles and I took it in to get them balanced and said I had "road force" That meant my tires were not wearing properly. So I have had 3 new set of tires in 6500 miles!!! CRAP TIRES. I am fighting with ford to get a different brand of tires...BEWARE!!!!

I just got the "rig" i bought it to replace a 95 GMC yukon. The changes are great and the ride is excellent.

  • Marginal quality - great design - 2003 Ford Expedition

I like the truck alot but at 1700 miles it shouldnt have to be in the repair shop so much. So far the front axles have been repaired to prevent a growling sound. It then developed a gear whine at 30 to 40 mph. First they replaced the transfer case which didnt fix it. Then they replaced the differential which did fix it. I hope this doesnt indicate whats in store for us in the future. Maybe an extended warranty would be a good investment. I tow a travel trailer and really like the way it handles the trailer.

  • leaking seals - 2003 Ford Expedition

Very disappointed! Had the oil pan gasket replaced at 3000 miles and now at 6000 miles just had the main rear seal replaced.Front tires constantly dirty from brake dust(really poor design). Climate control doesnt seem to run as smoothly as my wifes 2002 Mercury Sable. I had a !998 Ford F150 Lariat and never had a problem with it, wish I had it back.

  • Rattles - 2003 Ford Expedition

This is the most disapointing vehicle we have ever owned. Its not that it is a bad vehicle, but for the money we paid we had certain expectations, and it just does not live up to them. The rattles started at 250 miles and have got worse since then, rattles in the doors, roof, dash and seats. Trim pieces that dont fit. After six visits to the dealer some are resolved and some never will be. The good news is that there is a partial fix for the doors, there is a TSB from Ford, which consists of replacing the door locks and door seals, unfortunately it took 4 trips to the dealer before they found the TSB.

  • The best vehicle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2003 Ford Expedition

The 2003 Expedition is the best truck/SUV ever. The fuel economy is the only bad thing. The Expedition can do basicly anything off-road and on-road! It has power and stability!Dont even think about the Explorer. It is too small and has a very poor engine!Trust me the 2003 Expedition is the right vehicle for everybody!Excellent safety!

I HAVE LESS THEN 3000 MILES ON MY NEW EDDIE BAUER 2003 EXPEDITION AND SO FAR I HAVE BEEN PLEASENTLY SURPRISED! HANDLING IS VERY GOOD FOR ITS SIZE ,EASY TO PARK,AND IT HANDLES WELL ON THE TURNPIKE. ITS A FUN CAR TO DRIVE AND HAS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR THE GRANDCHILDREN WITH ALL THEIR FISHING EQUIPMENT.

  • Big, Roomy and feels like it - 2003 Ford Expedition

Admitted Ford fan with a strong bias towards Ford products. Though not the strongest engine (5.4) on the market, still very competent and solid performer. I own a 2000 F-150 and am amazed how much better the turning radius is on the Eddie Bauer Expedition. Sound system is superb. Heated and air conditioned seats give a new meaning to comfort. Appears to be well built with not a single problem found in the first 4 months (knock on wood).

After comparing to Tahoe, we found the Expedition to have a smoother ride and much more head room in 3rd row seat plus easier entry to rear. On recent trip from Arkansas to Florida, fully loaded with 4 adults and 2 children, we averaged 22 miles per gallon. Overall, we have been very pleased with the Expedition and were able to get 48 month lease for $100.00 less per month than Tahoe.
