This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • Great SUV - 2003 Ford Expedition

This is great suv, however the 4.6 is a little sluggish, needs the 5.4. I work for Ford and I must say the quality is great. after driving the Navigator for 4 years, the EB is cheaper and just as nice, with the exception of a few features, found on the Nav.

  • Old 1999 still fun - 2003 Ford Expedition

Ive got a 1999 Expedition, I still love to drive it. The all wheel drive makes this beast corner very well. Highway mileage is very good for the triton v8. If you live in a true city area, you might want to shy away from this vehicle because traffic jams eat up the gas quickly. Stop and go traffic is rough on a 4000+ lb vehicle. Any other drivers, suburbs or otherwise will be glad they no longer have to fear for their lives in the winter, it handles like a dream. Just slow down, you can go much faster than you can stop. To those critics who drive a euro sports sedan - dont kid yourself, your car is no friend of the environment either.

We went shopping for a Toyota Sequoia and ended up buying a Ford Expedition. The two primary reasons for NOT buying the Sequoia were its 3rd row seats and NO LUMBAR SUPPORT for either front seat. The Ford excels over the Toyota in these two areas, as well as having a better ride. Having 4 kids, we needed all the neat seat configurations available in the Expy. If you have one in a car seat, Ford made the center seat on the 2nd row just for that. It slides forward 11 inches to bring the little munchkin right up between the drive and passenger. Which reminds me of the ONLY OPTION on ours; captains chairs up front (because we didnt need seating for 9).

Great tow vehicle, very comfortable and pleased with truck. this is my 5th Ford SUV( 4 Explorers. Front axle replaced at 10k, roof rack collapsed and Ford declined to fix, may be time to switch back to GM.

I have had only one problem. The rubber escutcheon around the keyhole had to be replaced.

Weve had a week, and its been great. We love the safe feeling and the comfort we now ride in. Its large enough for my 6 ft 6 husband to ride in 2nd seat.

  • FORD...NEVER AGAIN!!! - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

This is the 2nd Expedition I buy. This first one I bought...Transmission went out in 1 day! (Dealer Replaced) This new one has spent more hours in the dealership than in my garage. I have had the starter go out, the seat heaters dont work, the 4x4 turns on by itself (module replaced 2 times), Needs new brakes at 25,000 Miles, RPMs go up and down when coming to a stop, and guess what...it is in the shop right now for transmission problems. I am looking at a Lexus right now. I would not suggest this vehicle even for my worst enemy. Buyers beware. For the same price, you can buy a more reliable import luxury SUV!
