This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • 2003 No Problems - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

This car has met all my expectations. Plenty of room and creature comforts for a large family. Great performance when pulling a 7,000 lb. trailer, handles it with no problems. Only downside is poor gas mileage in city driving conditions, better than expected when on highway (18 MPG). I would definitely purchase this vehicle again.

  • Paint - 2003 Ford Expedition

Has anybody else had their paint job come undone. The paint on the hood of my truck is flaking off after just three months. Also, the window rattles a bit after opening and closing it.

  • Our family loves it! - 2003 Ford Expedition

This is our second Expedition, and we love it. We have three boys, and the older two play hockey. It has all the room we need for our frequent weekend hockey trips. It handles much more car-like than its exterior size would indicate.

  • GOT A LEMON! - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Vehicle was in the shop for 42 days the first 18 months. Ford is buying back the vehicle and refunding ALL my money (thank god). Problems: Rear differentials (3), side mirrors, side vent windows, drivers seat, front differential, brakes. RESALE IS HORRIBLE!!! BEWARE!

  • BEST SUV EVER - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

This SUV can do all the things a large pick-up can do but still has a soft car ride, not to mention the air suspention and the indepedepedet rear suspention. It also has about twice the size of leg room in each seat, compared to yukon or the Toyota seqoia. It also has a styleish design inside of the car and out side of the SUV.HEated mirrors and good derability it is the best truck/ SUV ever, had a seqoia and yukon last year and didnt like it at all, this can beet , any other car out there.Plus to many small luxurious things to list.

  • Great Vehicle poor Gas Mileage - 2003 Ford Expedition

I overall like this vehicle, if it were not for the Gas prices I think it would be one of the best out there. It gets an average of 13.8 mpg, overall the space and comfort level is great.

  • Ghostly Roar...... - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Since the 1st week of ownership I have been complaining of a roar. Well, this last 3 weeks I have been dealing with local dealership and the Regional Ford Rep....Very dissatified. No fix for problem now, Ford "is working on the problem". They want me to be patient and wait until the fix. I have to ride with the vehicle in A4wd- -gas guzzler--awlful noise is now apparent in A4wd. Nothing I can do but be a puppet on a string!!!!!!! This problem can be present in ALL 4WD EXPEDITIONS AS WELL AS NAVIGATORS FOR 2003!!!! Also, they changed brake pads due to asbestos, the wheels stay BLACK due to tremendous brake dust!

  • 2003 Expedition FX4 - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Best full Size SUV there is. Feels great to drive with positive handling and a solid ride. FX4 package gives the Expedition a distinctive look and gets admiring looks wherever we go. Great off-road vehicle as well with hatloads of towing capacity.

  • Awesome Expedition, Fords Home Run - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

This vehicle was everything I expected and more. The ride is shockingly smooth for such a large truck and the engine is outstanding. It just pulls and pulls. The advance trac system eliminates the need for 4wd in all everyday situations. Snow is no problem. The only reason to buy the 4wd option would be for true offroading. The interior is designed well and extremely comfortable. At 6, 230 lbs, even the third row seat is comfortable. It is packed with great features and everything is solidly built. I love it.

  • Finally Good - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

I purchased it new in Dec. of 2002. I had lot of problems. By 5,K miles I was on my thrid set of tires. The tires were cupping, aka "road force". Basically the tires are cheap Continental tires, and they cant hold the weight of the Expedition. So you get vibration. Ford paid for the replacement tires. When I had to take it in for a thrid time I refused to take it back unless they put on a different brand. I got Michelin tires. Good to go..I had troubles with brake dust & squeeking. At 20K miles Ford paid for all new rotors, calipers, and pads. WAHOO. The dust is GONE. I had to get the rear axle replaced as well. I think it is good to go now with 34K on it no problems. Knock on wood.
