This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • Chevy man turns Ford - 2003 Ford Expedition

Been a rabid Chevy fan for 25 years of driving. The last few years Chevy prices keep going up and quality keeps fallin. Test drove a 2003 Expedition and was IMPRESSED! I think the Expy looks classy an expensive compared to the 2003 Tahoe/Yukon. The Expy it drop dead quite, rides very nice for an SUV and handles WAY better in turns than a Tahoe. It also cost less and has more torque and towing ability than the Tahoe. If this Expy is reliable (unlike my Tahoe) Ill be a Ford man for life. Thats saying a lot for me since Ive been a Chevy fanatic 25 years.

  • Ford nailed it on the new EXPY! - 2003 Ford Expedition

Ford really got it right. This thing looks great and thrashes the Yukon I traded on ALL fronts. It has more leg room in the third row than the YUK. It handles much better and has no "roll" when taking turns. It handles more like a import sedan than an SUV. They say the YUK has more "punch". Well I cant tell it. This EXPY is just as quick and has much more torque than the Vortec.

This truck is a lot better than its predecessor. The improved styling is really nice. The interior comfort has really been increased and it is a lot more functional.

Our $33.5 Eddie Bauer 5.4L 2WD model offers plenty of power and handles very much like a car, little hint of the 5,600 pounds around you. I considered the 4.6L but recommend the bigger V8. The $700 extra and 1 MPG sacrifice are worth if for all but a few drivers. MPG over 8K miles has been 14-17, averaging 16 C/H. Ergonomically correct for this 62" driver throughout, this is one of Fords best ever, drive it and youll agree (I dont work for them).

  • BEST ONE YET - 2003 Ford Expedition

THIS IS MY 3RD EXPLORER SINCE 1991, AND THE 2002 EDDIE B IS THE BEST. THE RIDE THE QUALITY, EVERYTHING ABOUT THE VEHICLE IS EXCELLANT. LOOKED AT THE TRAILBLAZER, DROVE IT AND DECIDED TO STAY WITH EXPLORER.

  • Great SUV - 2003 Ford Expedition

This is great suv, however the 4.6 is a little sluggish, needs the 5.4. I work for Ford and I must say the quality is great. after driving the Navigator for 4 years, the EB is cheaper and just as nice, with the exception of a few features, found on the Nav.

  • Old 1999 still fun - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Ive got a 1999 Expedition, I still love to drive it. The all wheel drive makes this beast corner very well. Highway mileage is very good for the triton v8. If you live in a true city area, you might want to shy away from this vehicle because traffic jams eat up the gas quickly. Stop and go traffic is rough on a 4000+ lb vehicle. Any other drivers, suburbs or otherwise will be glad they no longer have to fear for their lives in the winter, it handles like a dream. Just slow down, you can go much faster than you can stop. To those critics who drive a euro sports sedan - dont kid yourself, your car is no friend of the environment either.

  • Great Car - 2003 Ford Expedition

Car drives great. Is a very smooth drive. drives more like a car than a truck.

I have had only one problem. The rubber escutcheon around the keyhole had to be replaced.

  • We love it - 2003 Ford Expedition

Weve had a week, and its been great. We love the safe feeling and the comfort we now ride in. Its large enough for my 6 ft 6 husband to ride in 2nd seat.
