This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

The ride in unmatched and it is just the greatest SUV to date.

  • Great improvments - 2003 Ford Expedition

I got my Expedition in December and the only problem is the passenger side view mirror tends to adjust itself when I unlock the doors from the keyless entry system. It seems to click and get stuck. Ill get it fixed the first time I go in for an oil change, but otherwise, no complaints--good car and you can get a pretty sweet deal if you work it right!

  • Never had a big truck - 2003 Ford Expedition

We just purchased this after someone rear ended our 99 Jeep Cherokee Classic on the highway at 55 mph. We felt bigger = better safetywise (at least it FEELS that way). It was between the 2003 Explorer XLT and this and for the price the Expedition won hands down. I find the Expedition to be big, but not cumbersome. The towing capacity cinched the deal for us. The looks of the FX4 package swayed my husband. The fuel economy has me a little scared but after being in an unfortunate accident, money is not the biggest concern. Anyway, my Cherokee mpg was never THAT great to begin with...

  • BEST SUV ON THE ROAD - 2003 Ford Expedition

EVERYTHING ABOUT IT IS STYLED RIGHT AND EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE. REAR ROW SEATS ARE ROOMY AND COMFORTABLE. GAS MILEAGE FOR SUCH A LARGE VEHICLE IS AS EXPECTED. SURVIVEABILITY IN AN ACCIDENT IS STRONG POINT FOR OWNING.

  • NICE for the PRICE!! - 2003 Ford Expedition

luv the truck. interior stylin has being my 1st, pot holes look out. I am crashing curbs and bruisin the pavement of every major downtown street. overall handling and performance is excellent which goes contrary to most editorial opinions. this monster for his size can sway and swerve his way through "S" turns almost like my jetta v6. heard lot of people complain about engine lag going up hill -- use the over drive (OD) button. it will get you up and over most inclines in half the time.

  • Good Choice - 2003 Ford Expedition

Before deciding on the Expedition I did a lot of research both on the Internet and in person. I narrowed my choices to the Tahoe and the Expedition. I chose the Eddie Bauer Expediton and it was a great choice. It drives like a dream and the handling is very tight. On the road it has all of the power I need. The fuel economy is higher than what my research lead me to believe. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

  • Third Times a Charm - 2003 Ford Expedition

Clearly the best Expy the moment you take the now shorter climb aboad. From the smaller steering wheel, rack and pinion steering, car sounding starter and lush interior, my 03 EB Expy is a dream to drive. It feels lighter to drive than my 2000 EB Expy with less body roll and porposing front to back. Very smooth, very quiet. Luxury ride. Feels less like a truck ride, but better than a GMC which rolls too much.

  • 2003 XLT Expedition - 2003 Ford Expedition

We traded in a minivan for an expedion and just love it. I have two teenage boys and we like to travel by car. There is lots of room for everyone to spread out in their own space and be comfortable. The Expedition is easy to drive even for my wife who is only 5 tall just make sure you get the running boards. We bought the XLT Premium Expedition with the 6 disk CD Changer and middle console in the front. Gas mileage is not bad at 14-18 MPG. Highly recommend this as a family vehicle especially as your children get older.

Comparing my 2001 Expedition to the 2003, the ride has signficantly improved. The dashboard seems somewhat boring and could be improved in the future with enhanced looks and perhaps more woodgrain. Seats seem to be a little smaller and legroom on drivers side seems tighter. All in all, Im happy to have the 2003 Expedition, having previously had a 2001 Expedition and a 1999 Navigator.

  • The Machine of all Machines - 2003 Ford Expedition

I was floored to note the quality that Ford has put into the 2003 Expedition. Quite, fast, and built for a large group. I dont think you could ask for more. Gas consumption is a different matter as its getting just under 18MPG on the open highway, but the old saying is, you get what you pay for. As for me, I paid a fair price and got a better than normal product.
