This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • Sweet beast - 2003 Ford Expedition

Leaps and bounds above prior Expeditions. Easily matches comfort with Sequoia. Not as powerfiul as it oughta be, but fit, finish, styling and extras are great. Best suspension in this class. Very atractive, fun, safe and easy to drive. Highly recommended!

  • Surprised at some of the poor ratings - 2003 Ford Expedition

I guess I am lucky, but the only thing I have had to repair on this vehicle since purchased new were the actuators on the power door locks. Other than that, it has never seen the shop except for routine maintenance. I am sort of sorry I paid for the extended warranty because I dont think it is likely that I will need it. Very reliable car.

  • Excellent built vehicle. Flawless towing - 2003 Ford Expedition

I am the second owner of a 2003 year Expedition. This truck is all stock except it has 20 inch rims in the summer. It tows my 30 foot boat with a weight of about 11,000lbs including trailer. Drove 13 hours with it and no problems at all. This truck really is impressive, nothing has failed on it yet at 100,000 miles. Awesome build quality. Cosmetically its great, engine runs like new. Vehicle is very safe and the stability control is an amazing feature. Could not be happier. All the friends love it too. Would recommend to anybody.

Compared this to the Chevy, Toyota and GMC SUVs of similar size. The excellent third row leg room was important to us with tall sons. We went with the captains chairs in the second row. Easy of entry is great. Sound system is just ok. DVD is nice for the long trips. We liked the Toyota Sequoia but no captains chairs so leg room in third row was poor. Gas milage about 13 in city so far. All in all very happy.

  • it "lugs" and its tinny - 2003 Ford Expedition

I like almost everything about it except the 4.6 "lugs". It sounds like its straining just to go up a slight hill, and it sounds tinny when you shut doors. Not solid sounding at all.

cant compare to anything out in the market even if fords do suck the expedition seems like it is not connected to the ford company because it is one of a kind, i was more of a yukon person but the 2003 eddie bauer was top of the line even a little better than the escalade even though the escalade looks nicer but the expo is tight

I just bought a fully loaded Eddie Bauer Expedition and have already put 1000 miles on it in two weeks! It is much better than I even thought. I was between this and the Sequoia and chose the Expedition purely because of the fold flat power seat. Happy I did it and would recommend this truck over and over again.

This is a very nice vehicle, large but very easy to drive. Has a nice soft ride. Engine is very quite. I have a 21ft bass boat which it pulls very well.

So far its spent most of the first month in the shop now Ford tell us that the clunk we hear on downshift and upshift is normal. Wed like to trade it for something else.
