This Year's Model Updates:

The Excursion is an entirely new SUV based on Ford's F-250 Super Duty truck platform. It is the largest vehicle of its type, outgunning even the Chevy Suburban in terms of overall size and interior space.

Pros:
  • Epic interior space, powerful engine line-up and a long list of standard equipment.
Cons:
  • Its HUGE, which means poor gas mileage and difficult to maneuver within city limits.

Get the Gas V-10 for optimum power. Great deals abound due to gas mileage concerns for used. I would bet it comes back after a redefined engine "Overhaul" that increases mileage 20% but comes in smaller than the Suburban. Excellent large family car. I went from Explorer to this and have not regretted it.

Cant beat it with a family of 6 and the stuff that goes along with a family of 6. For a 7000lb vehicle getting 16mpg is mind blowing comparing that the Ford Explorer gets the same gas mileage. (Used to have one of them too.)

I asked several owners about the reliability and gas milage before I purchased an Excursion and got rave reviews from all on reliability and service problems. Gas milage is nothing to write home about but you can load everybody and their stuff and go wherever you want. The thing is built like a tank and rides quite well. I anticipate owning it many years. One of the people I questioned bought his from a state auction and drove it 100,000+ miles and had to have something with the wipers fixed(something due to the speed variable setting, I figured). If this was all, since most new cars have several bugs(especially the debut model like this one is) I was sold.

We bought this SUV because of our family size and we do a lot of out door activities. The whole family could not be more happy and comfortable. For me there is no more gut wrentching tows up the mountains with out travel trailer.

I bought this SUV for me, with 4 kids I hate to be the MOM in the Minivan, did that hated it!!! I love my Excursion, I put the loudest kid in the back, turn up the radio so when they fight, I cant hear it.

Having just dumped my problem-plagued Windstar for a Toyota Sienna, I was very concerned about the quality of Ford products. With four kids and all their stuff, I wanted a large SUV that could had our difficult winters. Ive been very pleased with my truck. At 43k, Ive only had minor warranty repair work completed. Would like better gas mileage and a softer ride. The stereo sounds great. The side mirrors and rear sensors give you great vision around the vehicle.

  • Great Vehicle, But... - 2000 Ford Excursion

I love my Excursion!! From my experience and from the comments of friends and family who have ridden with me, it is the best riding vehicle ever on the highway. It does ride a little rough when in town and going into and out of parking lots, etc. The "but" is that it does use a LOT of gas. I average about 15 MPG on the highway and about 10 MPG in town.

I love this thing!! I would have no complaints at all except it can drink the fuel........It is a diseal, you can run a long time on a full tank but it holds like $65.00 worth pur fill up. I get about 11-13 mpg

  • The Weekend Machine - 2000 Ford Excursion

I purchased my Excursion strictly for my family weekend getaways. I was a bit hesitant with the talk of gas mileage, but who buys a hog like this for gas mileage? Also seeing my Wife lounging on the back row playing with the kids during our last trip to Virginia Beach while I was in control up front makes this a worth while purchase. The SUV handles like a truck but has all the comforts of a luxury car. A DEFINITE KEEPER.

  • Outstanding Vehicle - 2000 Ford Excursion

Actually its a 2WD XLT. Fantastic vehicle!! Hauls my 4 ton trailer like it wasnt there..seats 8 people in comfort..6.8L V-10 w/4.30 axle ratio gives great fuel economy and performance for its size. Added Edelbrock shocks and the handling is even good. This vehicle is perfect for the rough roads in the SE Michigan area...the big tires and wheels handle the bumps and holes with ease. 44 gallon fuel tank is big plus.
