This Year's Model Updates:

The Excursion is an entirely new SUV based on Ford's F-250 Super Duty truck platform. It is the largest vehicle of its type, outgunning even the Chevy Suburban in terms of overall size and interior space.

Pros:
  • Epic interior space, powerful engine line-up and a long list of standard equipment.
Cons:
  • Its HUGE, which means poor gas mileage and difficult to maneuver within city limits.

  • Great tow vehicle and very comfortable - 2000 Ford Excursion

I bought this 2000 Excuriosn to tow a 6500lb travel trailer. It has exceeded my expectations! Very comfortable on long trips, tows smoothly and handles well for such a big truck. I have the V10 which is efficient and very strong. I average 13 mpg towing at 60mph, and 17 highway not towing, with 4-6 passengers. This is a great truck.

I bought mine used with only 4k miles and it was 2 years old. The only bad part was having to replace the front drive axle on the long side. I own and operate my bike shop and I noticed that the new axle had a redesigned u- joint. I kept the old one in case I need it since Ford does not replace the u-joint but the whole unit. Other than that, I have had to disassemble the locking hubs everytime they need grease. Plus replace the battery after 7 years. The upside is that this truck does not get any worse gas mileage than a regular pickup. The MPG does not care if I am loaded down and towing or running empty. This is mostly due to the transmission "learning" as it goes.

  • Wow - 2000 Ford Excursion

What a ride, my kids really enjoy the ride, gas is ok on long trips. It beats taking two cars with gear. It also pulls a load well

  • Love my X - 2000 Ford Excursion

I have always owned full-size extended or crew-cab pick-up trucks so the size of the Excursion doesnt bother me at all. My family is expanding and I love all of the air conditioned seating it provides for my kid, dog, wife and all of their stuff. I have been averaging 19-20 MPG on the highway with my Powerstroke, which is exceptional for a SUV of this size. No 5300 or 6000 powered Yukon XL will be able to match it! Its too bad Ford quit making this vehicle. I say bring it back with the new Super Duty chassis and the 6.4L Powerstroke!

This is the best family vehicle in comfort, ride, reliability, and safety. And not to forget the cargo space. My father in-law is a world business man and travels quite often and brings us back a lot of goodies and this Excursion welcomes him and all his cargo with open doors. Weve taken trips from San Diego to Vancouver Canada and back, Vegas, LA to Seattle, and many trips to San Francisco with 4 large adults and two kids, and everyone praised how well it rides. It is really comfortable on long and short trip, rides high so you can enjoy the scenery.

I absolutely love my Excursion. I have the diesel. I am a Ford lover and went from an F250 crew cab 4x4 to the Excursion and am loving every minute of it.

This Excursion drive and rides like a dream. It is great on long trips, what a cruiser. I like the looks of it. The interior is so comfortable and roomy. You can haul just about anything. Ours is a diesel and not 4x4 so our mileage is not too bad. The bet we did was 19.75 and usually about 18 mpg. So for a rig this big thats not too bad. It is not the easiest thing to park.

  • Great family vacation vehicle - 2000 Ford Excursion

Great vehicle for towing a big camper with stability and power. Had problems with rotors that was warrantied twice but replaced three times. 13mpg. Can haul everything but it is a long vehicle.

I really am satisfied with my truck. I have never found a load I couldnt tow. Its comfortable for trips with two children and two dogs. Fuel usage, well it is a big vehicle with a V10, and thats all I have to say about that. Id buy it again!

  • I would buy another - 2000 Ford Excursion

When we purchased this SUV we needed something that was big enough to tote around our very active children and be reliable, safe and spacious. We have had to fix a few things in the SUV, but we have been very satisfied with it. We love driving our Ford Excursion and would purchase another one again. Maybe a diesel for fuel economy. It is pricey to fill the tank.
