Last year for the second-generation Escort. The 1.9-liter engine gets 100,000-mile tune-up interval. Automatic transmissions have lower final drive ratio when coupled with 1.9-liter engine to improve acceleration. Sport/Appearance Group available on four-door models. Ultra Violet decor no longer offered on GT. Integrated child safety seat, added during 1995 model year, continues for 1996 on sedan and wagon.

so-so - 1996 Ford Escort
By K560 - February 3 - 2:00 amIve had the hard for about 5.5 years and have gone 100,000 miles with it. Overall the car has been good- but then again Ive done all the maintance. The past 2 years though the car has started to have problems at this point Ive put in over 3,000 and the car never seems to run right. It was a good little car but now it seems to be on its last legs.

I had a few problems, mostly due to the fact it had been totalled before I bought it. The speedo jumps and makes a scratching noise due to a frayed cable, the 2nd gear synchro is off so downshifting always grinds going into second, and that DAMNED check engine light! it came on a week after I bought it, I had a cylinoid replaced, and that fixed it for another week. I had it checked twice, both times no codes. after that I just ignored it. many fond memories with this car. GREAT MILEAGE! and TONS of fun to drive. Id get another one in a second!

By Kerry3 - December 2 - 2:00 amMy Ford Escort is the first car Ive ever owned. I loved the style and now I love the car! I bought it brand new in 1996, and finally got a tune-up (2001)! Im not that nice to it, but the only problems Ive had were after 4 -6 years of Michigan driving, and 4 or 5 trips to Atlanta, GA. She now has almost 100,000 miles. The mileage is great, the ride is great shes reliable, especially considering what I havent done. Routine stuff? Nope, havent done them. Sometimes I do the oil. Shes a beaut!

By Ron Gaylord - July 17 - 2:00 amI brought this 1996 Escort wagon new in 1996. I currently have 114,000 miles on it and have had zero problems. It gets great mileage and I can carry just about anything with it. I also pull a trailer with a motorcycle on it and the Escort does fine as long as you dont have to use the air. I dont know how good the new Ford Focus is but I think Ford made a mistake when the got rid of the Escort wagon. My wagon has a standart shift and will keep up with any situation Ive found myself in.

When I first bought it (with 73K miles), I took two long road trips half way across the country and back without incident! The gas mileage was great and the ride wasnt bad!
