  • Lovin the summit! - 1995 Eagle Summit
    By -

Well, I have only had my 2-dr.ESi for a few months now, but I drive in excess of 500 kms a day, and I have not had a problem yet. Even at these high gas prices, I am not shelling out my paycheque for gas! Other than the road noise, i find this little puddle jumper to be everything you want it to be. The only other thing is the placement of the drink holders, right in front of the ashtray, so you cant use the ashtray when you have even one drink there! But if you dont smoke then this is of no concern! loL!

  • OK van, but watch it, watch it. - 1993 Eagle Summit

Bought with manual tr. ,used, 150K, with 2 valves blown, smoked heavily, fixed only 2 valves and head gasket, smoke didnt dissapear, was told all exhaust valves needed to be replaced. Major problem : if you have asian made Summit it has 90% parts of Mitsubishi Expo! Buy only parts that look like the one you have inside. When I asked for ignition rotor for Summit it was different from Expo, that coused a lot of problems. Starter the same fuel filter the same Always buy parts for both Expo and Summit and return the wrong ones. Remove fuse for seatbelts click manually save motors. Watch tranny fluid, had problem shifting, synchron was going bad - $ 1000.- job Shift slowly so clutch engages

Overall good car. Weak transmission however. Has had two re-builds. Has not deterred me from driving. Have not found a newer car with the same versatility and cargo capacity for its size. Easy to drive in city and comfortable on trips.

Has performed very well for 167,000 miles, with only 1 large problem which was a transmission (automatic) rebuild at 105,000 miles.

  • Great little car - 1994 Eagle Summit

I am parting with my Eagle Summit ESI after 140,000 miles. I originally bought it for my wife to commute to school. It cost $10,000 and was paid off in a year. After she got pregnant in 1998 I bought a larger "safer" car and I started driving this little puddle jumper. I wasnt thrilled about inheriting this car but it won me over through driving fun (upgraded suspension and manual transmission) and reliability. This car has never broken down...in 140,000 miles NEVER. It still hasnt needed a clutch or exhaust or any major engine components. I keep the oil in it and flush & fill the radiator yearly and the thing just keeps on running. Well worth the money.

  • So good, we bought a 2nd!!! - 1995 Eagle Summit

Great little car/van. Im a musician, as is my wife. She used it once when her Escort wagon was out of gas and immediately asked me to find her one. Hers now has 112,000 miles and a bit of rust out, mine has 132,000 and is rust free. Go figure. back seat folds forward and gives you much more room that a Caravan with 3rd seat out. Pulling back seat out gives 6 feet of cargo space. Great economy (30 mpg on the road) and reliability. Mine has needed NO major work in 4 years (Brakes only). My wifes needed a water pump. Timing belt and idler were replaced at that time which corrected a noisy engine problem.

  • GOTALEMON - 1996 Eagle Summit

BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAD PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE. LOTS OF RATTLING. THE HORN WOULDNT WORK. BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEMS, THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT TWO TIMES. THE GAS CAP LOCK STICKS AND IVE HAD TO GET HELP AT GAS STATIONS BEFORE PUMPING. WATER PUMP REPLACED, REPLACED THERMOSTAT,MANY OTHER SMALL PROBLEMS

  • Solid little car - 1990 Eagle Summit
    By -

Mine is getting up there in the milage department, but it still just rolls right along. Ive driven it pretty hard over the years and it has very seldom let me down. If you need a reliable set of wheels at a good price, a Summit would be an excellent choice.

  • Great AWD vehicle! - 1995 Eagle Summit
    By -

Very reliable. I bought my wagon with 84000 miles, I now have 115000 miles and I have only done basic maintenance and changed the water pump. It starts every time. Snow is no problem for this vehicle - the AWD is great. Gas mileage suffers a little from being AWD but its worth the trade off in a snowy environment.

  • Decent little car - 1995 Eagle Summit
    By -

I didnt have high expectations when I bought this car and Ive now owned it for five years and it has 92,000 miles and runs great. I drove a Honda Civic before this car and was suprised to find the Summit quite peppy. The only major problem the car has is with certain components rusting. The rotors rust very easily for some reason and Ive had to replace them a couple of times. The radiator also had to be replaced. Other than that, I havent done anything to it that is not routine maintenance. Mine is a standard and it drives and handles great.
