Make Overview:

The Jeep/Eagle division was formed in 1988 shortly after Chrysler bought the American Motors Corporation in 1987.

At the time, Detroit brands like Chrysler were trying to fend off increasing sales by import brands with the creation of their own import-style sales divisions. Eagle began with the Renault-influenced products developed for AMC, the Eagle Premier and the Eagle Medallion. The rest of the division's portfolio was filled out by vehicles from Mitsubishi, the Japanese company that had long been Chrysler's partner in the importation of small, fuel-efficient vehicles.

Jeep sales gave some energy to the Eagle division, but once Chrysler broke off the sport-utility brand and made it available to its own dealers as the SUV boom began in the 1990s, the Eagle brand quickly foundered. Chrysler announced the end of the Eagle brand in November 1997 and the last Eagle Talon, a badge-engineered version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, came off the assembly line shortly thereafter.

I picked up a 1994 TSI to replace my car that was totaled while parked. The price I paid was well within reason and at under 82K miles and one owner this car has plenty left. Ive only had it for a couple weeks, but I already feel like its "my car". I didnt favor Chrysler products in the past (Im a die-hard Toyota fan) but they did something right with this one. Mileage isnt too bad either so I wont go broke keeping gas in it.

  • I love my Talon - 1992 Eagle Talon

I have had transmission troubles with my 5spd but the car treats you the way you treat it, I race my n/t car it has 130+whp with full exhaust and cold air intake! The turbo AWD guys cant figure out how I keep up so well, because they have 146whp dynoed stock to all fours while I save weight to just the two! The 90-99 Talon and 92-94 Laser are built equivalent to the Eclipse of the same year!

This is a great car. It has been reliable and it is great fun to drive. It handles great, is fairly quick, and the brakes are excellent. I have not had any problems with the electrical system on mine. For the money, this is an awesome car.

  • Talon AWD: Diamond in the Roth - 1991 Eagle Talon

Unfortunately for the Talon, it always gets bad reviews from people who dont know anything about the car. I bought mine needing repairs and had NO trouble fixing the car. The typical things to watch out for when driving the 4G63-based cars: Timing Belt and the Balance Shaft Belt (small belt behind the timing.) People complain about the transfer case leak, its under recall from Mitsubishi, people. Treat this car right, and you will have no problem with it. You will not believe how many of these cars are treated bad, and end up with problems because of it.

  • way to much fun - 1991 Eagle Talon

these cars are WAAY to much fun. As stated by another rater of the car. You need to look at the belts every few thousand miles. These arent hondas where you can just let them run and run forever without any maintence. These are moderate maintence cars. But if taken care of, onyl the tranny will fail you. From AWD launches :) to the guy who paid 1500 for fixing the oil leak in his tranny. You could have bough one for that price from RRE that was built to handle the abuse.

  • 93 TSI has been good to me - 1993 Eagle Vision
    By -

My ratings are higher, but I agree with the other comments. Bought the TSI when it was 4 years old with 50K and I now have 141K 7 years later. Ive had problems with A/C (3 times), water pump, catalytic converter, and CD player. Ive replaced the struts, battery, and tires once. Ive had two brakes jobs including rotating rotars. With all this, I dont remember having an 11 year old car with so few maintenance items. I have no plans to sell it. Its still my daily carpool car.

  • Reliable Performance with a Backseat - 1995 Eagle Talon
    By -

I purchased this car Jan 1 2000. The only problem I ever experienced was the ABS pump froze-up, $950 to replace, and that was at 95k miles. After we had our first child I had no problems with his carseat fitting in the rear seats, which was great. Turbo power is great for passing on the interstate!
