  • Good Van - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Were a family of 4 and have not had any problems with our van (Ive been shocked at what Ive been reading in this comment area). Weve put 95K miles on it, and have just started noticing a small oil leak. Cant say weve taken the best care of it either. Overall, this has been a very reliable car; I would purchase another one!

  • No problems, I like it - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Have it for 4 years. Bought it used. It was a exec special so the mileage was a little high but it was loaded. No problems other than normal maintenance. I have two kids so the captains chairs are great for getting in and out. Only negative is the weight of the chairs. Not the easiest to remove/replace. Fuel mileage could be better.

Bought in Sept of 99 after birth of twins, with 22k on it. Now it has 120k. Trans went out at 36K and 38K (covered under waranty). Went through instrument panel controllor and 2 engine computers (@$400 and $600); which is very unusal (I am spoiled by having driven Subaru for 30 years with excelent reliability). Have replaced muffer and starter which is normal; heater hoses went out last week ($600). Build quality is and interior materials less than asian cars. Will most likely not buy Dodge again.

Purchased the Grand Caravan in 1998. Liked the way it looked and there were not many alternatives like today. Over the years, had numerous problems with the vehicle. Most annoying was the vehicle would shred the belts about every 12 months. Dealers would say they fixed the problem. About 12 months later, the belts would shred again. Too many other problems to list. Finally, after deciding the transmission was about to go and having the belts shred for the third time in three years, traded for a Toyota. This was my second Dodge product. I should have learned from my experience with the first (Intrepid). I will not be fooled again. I will never, ever purchase a Dodge again.

  • What a piece of junk!!! - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

My model is the Sport. In the 4 yrs that Ive had this vehicle, Ive had to replace the brakes (at 25,000 mi), replace battery TWO times, replace defective (Michelin)(tires caused steering wheel to shake & vibrate)-I was told by dealer there was a recall and to take them to a Michelin dealer who told me that theyd replace the tires but I had to pay a good amount for the replacement tires, van has developed oil leak that will cost $1,000 to repair, transmission needed repairing-- these are only a few of the problems Ive had with it -- NEVER AGAIN!!!! No more Chrysler products for me.

This is the second dodge ive owned and i should have learned the first time. THANK GOD i got the warranty when i bought this car used - Ive had to replace the transmision at 70,000 and have most of the valve gaskets replaced in the engine - there is still oil leaking into the air filter I think the fuel injectors are crapping out now as well-

  • Bad Transmission - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Its a sad that dodge cant seem to fix the transmission problems in there vans. When it hit 79000 miles the transmission went out, water pump, brake booster and master cyinder. Its a good thing that I purchase the extended warranty . I also would like to warn everyone that this year of van does not have a, Brake Shift Interlock this means that anyone can pull it into gear when the motor is running with out pushing on the Brake.Very,Very dangerous.

I have driven this van on vacations and hauled lumber. With the tow pacage it works as good as a truck. The 6 cylinder uses gas. about $30 a week. I bought another toyata car to drive casue it was too expensive to drive in the city. I still have the van. It sure last any value quick.

  • I love this van - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

This van has all the handling characteristics of a sedan but with a hugh interior. I love this van and always will. It has decent power but the most important feature is the way it handles on the highway. Dont get me wrong, in very high winds, youre going to get pushed but NOTHING like the Windstar. I recently drove a brand new Windstar and I was all over the highway. Its handling was much poorer than my Dodge. I highly recommend this vehicle.
