This Year's Model Updates:

America's best-selling minivan is all new for 2001, with many industry-first features including a power rear tailgate, a power sliding door obstacle detection system, and a removable and powered center console, and a pop-up rear cargo organizer, all residing under sleek new sheetmetal.

Pros:
  • Lots of new options, torquey engines, car-like driving characteristics, improved safety features.
Cons:
  • Still no stowable third seat, gets pricey when options are added, legroom in second-row seats.

I just bought a new left over 2001 ES GC. It has too many options to mention and I think I got it for a good deal of $28K. MSRP was $35.5 new. So far so good. We tried the 2002 MPV and Odyssey and the Dodge appears to give best bang for buck

  • A real multi purpose vehicle - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

My wife and I purchased our Caravan soon after our daughter was born, used, with almost 14,000 miles and have loved every bit of it. I traded in a Dakota, and it can do more than my truck did. The two back seats roll out, and the volume is tremendous. On the highway, I average 28 mpg., with the 3.3 liter. My sister has a popular SUV, and her interior space is MUCH more limited, in a vehicle that gets much poorer gas mileage!!?? Long after I don’t need a kid mover, I’ll still have a Caravan because of it’s usefulness.

I bought this minivan new because it was the best looking of all the minivans at the time. It had an unusually (for a minivan) sporty look plus it has a great ride, handled well, was very comfortable on long trips, a luxurious interior and quietness, and offers great peformance with plenty of torque from the 3.8 V6. However, it turned out to be more than a lemon, a real headache. It has had over $5,750 in repairs since 1 week of ownership until now. To list just a few problems: New rear hatch motor, sliding door motor, window motor, new transmission,3 AC,condensor, 2sets rotors, ignition barrel, pwr doorlock, pwr steering ,etc..all before 50,000 miles.

  • Excellent van - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

We have a 96 Grand Caravan with 168,000 miles and it is still running strong, but figured the wife would be better with a newer model. The van gets 23-24 mpg, rides great, and everyone is comfortable. The power sliding door is a two edged sword, but the power liftgate is great, especially when it is raining. We have 65,000 on this van, and have never had a problem with it.

  • Not Happy!!! - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

Bought this minivan only two months ago. Already a/c went out, pass. side door trim (exterior) fell off. But gas mileage is decent for a seven year old vehicle. Wish it had center console, dealer didnt know where it was and it was over $400.00 from Dodge! Also no owners manual.

  • The van likes the shop more than me - 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

I really like this vehicle but it spends too much time in the shop. Too many issues (window motor, door motor, AC, radio, trans) to mention here but the high end extended warranty 7 yr/100K mile was worth it. We received $8-10K worth of work via the warranty. It has a sports handling package & rides well but with some noise. We take this to FL from DC every year. Interior is nice, somewhat plasticky but solid. Exterior is very sporty & one of the nicer looking vans on the road. I enjoyed the van but even with the warranty, it sucked the life out of me going back & forth to the dealer. We replaced it with a Sienna. This was our 3rd Chrysler, dont buy one without a warranty.

Solid ride, fairly quiet inside, peppy motor.

Top of line 3.8L ES, non-AWD. Awesome vehicle. 3 zone auto A/C is great. 3 power doors great. 77k miles. 17" chrome wheels look great. Whats better than Odysseys 3rd fold flat seat? A 50/50 rear bench. Cant count how many times half of that seat is down to allow beach stuff or whatever and still get 4 kids in. Odyssey 3rd seat is all or nothing...overrated! Also have the back shelf...useful for groceries...above and below. And, in 2001, no leather from Honda...we have all leather. Kids and cloth interiors do not get along very well. We tow a 3500# trailer quite frequently...tows very strong. People almost look surprised when they see a van pulling the trailer...yep, not an SUV.
