Grand Caravan Sport - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By RayJ - June 1 - 2:00 amPractical and fun family vehicle. Only manufacturer who provides quality built in child safety seats. Sport package provides very good handling and performance for extended family road trips. Good gas mileage on road (20-22 mpg) loaded with family and luggage. No mechanical or body problems, just normal maintenance.

I wish it were better built - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By tebyerly - May 20 - 10:00 amWe have a 5 year-old Dodge Grand Caravan SE. I like the size, design and perfomance of the vehicle. I wish it were built better and more reliable. Since the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty expired, we have paid for approximately $4,000 of repair bills. And that doesnt include the transmission which I am sure will go any day. Weve had to fix a very costly engine gasket oil leak, have the oil pan replaced, replaced the air conditioner evaporator coil and condenser, the belt tensioner, 2 batteries, front brakes and various other electrical and mechanical items. We are now doing what we should have done years ago. We are buying a Honda Odessey.

Like it, but... - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By TxUser - November 29 - 7:56 amFor the most part Ive been very happy with this vehicle, I like the basic design it has a lot of room compared with other minivans, comfy, and handles well. Few mechanical problems except the belt tensioner went out once and the mirror folding detents all sprung. A/C condenser and evaporator coil need replacement now after 70K miles. Odd electrical intermittent bits including: fuel guage, ABS light, front door key lock, delay wipers. Too many!

Midwest Family Van - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Midwest Family Van - November 19 - 2:00 amBought new. Haven taken several cross country family vacations. It has been very reliable, never broken down. Change oil myself every 5000 miles. Only rountine maintenance needed; tires, replaced battery at 5 years - typical life of a battery, front brakes at 87,000. We would definitly buy a another Caravan, but we do not want to get rid of this one.

Never Again - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By carnegiemom - November 3 - 10:00 amDodge has replaced the main computer module three times and now it is the wiring harness. We have never had mechanical problems; all electrical. It just dies on the road with no warning. Not reliable for a soccer mom!

Good Minivan Sport version - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By rt90 - September 12 - 10:00 am80,000 miles and still going strong. I do my own maintenance so the hardest thing to replace was the starter at 75K. It does eat front brake pads. Had to replace the tranny lines from the raditor. One brake hose started to fail and was replaced under warranty. Overall it takes a beating and keeps ticking. Battery replaced once. No major problems yet.

My best minivan - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By Charlie - June 22 - 12:16 amI buy this minivan 4 years ago, I do a lot of things in there; I use it like a cargo van-I put in there 12 people and 15 backpaks-, for traveling, a few off road sessions, its so roomy, I love all that space. Yes I had some problems, but it was my fault, so I dont think that it was a bad car.

We are so glad we did it! - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By minivanfamnow - May 15 - 10:00 amI love this van... i cant believe i am saying that! I really do! I am glad we got an older model that was LOADED! Runs like a dream...the transmission was smoother than our Nissan. I know that a lot of people have "bad luck" with the caravan, but just take care of it and it will take care of you :)

American Cars - Do They Compare Yet? - 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
By dirk pitt - December 30 - 2:00 amWe had owned a couple of older cars for a number of years and we decided we needed the room of a minivan, so we bought our Grand Caravan with 52,000 miles on it. While we have not had any mechanical problems with it so far, it is so difficult to perform preventative maintenance on it except oil changes. I do my own work, but I could not change all of the spark plugs, belts, fuel filter, etc. Its fuel economy was disappointing, and its build quality is not as good as my Toyota Corolla that is eight years older and has four times as many miles on it (235,000).
