  • Disappointed - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

We bought this van new and within the first year the driver side sliding door mechanism broke and wasnt covered under warranty. Year 2 the air conditioner stopped working and air bag light came on and has perpetually been on since (no one cn figure out whats wrong with it)and year 3 its been in the shop 3 times; brakes replaced, broken water pump and bad EGR valve. Its so disappointing to have such a popular and common vehicle have so many issues.

  • Sorry I got this van - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

I decided to trade my old van for the 2006 because of the stow n go seats. I am leasing the van with all intentions of keeping the van when the lease is up. I should have kept my old vehicle. I had complained twice about the odor I get when I turn on the defrost or a/c and I have been told there is nothing wrong. I had to have the back a/c unit replaced because of leaking, the part was on back order and had to wait 2 months which was during the hottest time of the season. The motor on the passenger side window had to be replaced, the window would not go up during a rain. Now the left passenger side door will not slide open when I press the button, I have to manually open the door.

  • Disappointed Grand Caravan Owner - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

Our first Grand Caravan is a 1999 with 174k miles. Regular maintenance and a few minor issues through the years. But the 2006 model has been a major disappointment. The space and ride are good but we have been told the rack and pinion are shot as well as the power steering pump at 65000 miles. The water pump replaced at 40k and the passenger side sliding door lock broke at 20k. The leather seats are now starting to wear through. Cant wait to get rid of it.

  • AC problems - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
    By -

I purchased the vehicle used with 9000 miles. As soon as the warranty ran out we had a power steering fluid leak. An after warranty recall was done on the rear evaporator of the AC system and that unit was replaced. The dealer returned the vehicle last spring stating the system to be working. Summer came and the unit would not blow cold air. Now the front receiver dryer needs replacement to the tune of $489.54. If the rear evaporator was flawed then it is safe to say Dodge equipped this vehicle with an inferior quality AC system.

  • FINALLY DONE WITH CHRYSLER - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

Bought this van new in 2005, has been a great hauler for grandkids and big stuff. In 80000 miles, it went thru 3 sets of front brakes and 2 sets of rear brakes, the original tires lasted 28000 miles. Cooer GS4 have lasted 52000 mi. in the last year the sliding doors have decided to rust on the bottom and the rear fender wells have also started. The 3.8 motor has used a quart of oil every 1500 miles since 47000 mi. replaced the turn signal switch 2 times. Final thing the driver side spring broke the other day, never had a car do that. very dangerous. with the rust not sure its worth repairing. Worst of 4 vans.

  • Please dont buy - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

I bought this van brand new. We purchased an extended warranty also. I have had continuous problems starting at about 18,000 with stalling. I had to take it in over 6 times only to be told nothing is registering on the computer. After the 6th time, the fuel pump was replaced. Now, again, we are having stalling problems only to be told nothing is registering and it cant be duplicated. Gas mileage horrible. It also: has problems with front brakes, grinding sound turning and reverse, a loud noise on hard right turns. And, nothing is wrong with any of these items according to the dealerships. Huge safety hazard

  • Everything but the engine - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

After 60K miles, were not either happy or unhappy with the van. Weve liked the room, the stowngo, and have had no major maintenance problems (engine/transmission/steering etc). However, we have had issues with things like both power sliding doors (38K miles), a/c not working properly(52K miles), radio/cd/tape not working (40K miles), and recently the rear liftgate latch appears to be hanging. Weve been disappointed with the fuel economy, averaging about 19 mpg overall (mostly highway), and high quoted repair costs, and very low quoted trade- in values ($8-9K after 3 years on a $23K van). Overall, a very mixed bag. Unlikely to repeat the purchase.

  • Bit dissapointed - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

After only 65,000 km (40,000 mi) it uses 2 liters of oil between changes! Chrysler service mgr. told me I was checking it wrong! Then said that if it were using that much oil, you wouldnt be able to see behind the car for smoke! Then he said it is common for a car to use a liter every 1000 km! All this in a 5 minute conversation! The head light module has been replaced, as have most of the front end components. Seats are uncomfortable and suspension is mushy! Have already done first brake job! Guess I shouldnt compare it to my 1996 with 323,000 km (200,000 miles)! Thank god I didnt trade it! At least I have 1 good car! Also the /06 only gives 19 to 20 mpg as compared to the /96 at 28 mpg.

  • We Got Stranded! - 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
    By -

While returning to our home from an out-of-town gathering we stopped about 50 miles from home for refreshments. When we got back in the car the headlights failed to work. Using the flashers only we managed to find a motel for the night. The next day we returned home to find a dealer that did absolutely nothing to help us out. Im very disappointed in both the vehicle and the dealership. By the way, the vehicle has less than 5000 miles on it.
