Overview & Reviews
Like its sibling, the Dakota, the Durango gets a new trim level dubbed SXT that serves as the entry-level Durango. Other improvements this year include side-curtain airbags, a five-speed automatic gearbox and an optional DVD video entertainment system.
- Commodious cabin, newly optional side-curtain airbags and DVD video, capable performance on-road and off, aggressive styling.
- Some cheap interior trim, high fuel consumption.

weak towing, crappy heads - 2002 Dodge Durango
By zcarguy73 - August 11 - 5:51 pmBought my durango for 9 gs with 32000 miles. for 30000 miles no problem. Started falling apart at 60000 miles. The window regulators are constantly breaking. Had an overheating problem at 70000 miles while towing 2000 pounds (and thats a maybe). No big deal so I thought. Changed out the cooling system and still overheating. You guessed it, blown heads. I loved this car until now. Time to move on. Never again will I buy a dodge gas vehicle. Seems there diesels are the only thing worth it.

Time to Trade - 2002 Dodge Durango
By Mr. John Lennon - October 21 - 2:00 amI like the sport car type driving this Rango has, I removed the Du on the back. I have not had the problems that everyone has noted. 73k I do all the maintenance. Because of the 5.9 slug blogs I used a produce called Auto RX. I just removed the valve cover today 10/21/10 very clean. But because of the comments on transmission problems I am thinking of something else and not a Dodge. Murphy might be just around the corner because of this post. I might chop it up and call it ART, or have a fund raiser shoot out. All in the name of Government Bailout. Now you got me going.

Loves the truck but hates the repairs - 2002 Dodge Durango
By drivesalot - July 14 - 2:46 pmI love this vehicle for its looks and comfort on longer drives but its constantly in the shop! After purchasing it I found out about all the down falls it has even though I looked for the negatives. When it gets to over 125,000 mi expect to have engine troubles soon after! Everyone I have met with one no matter how good they maintain theirs has had blown heads and needed new engines. Its great for getting through heavy snows but I have practically rebuilt the truck part by part since I bought it! No repair on it is cheap either. Even though I like the this vehicle if I could go back I would choose something else. I have put $1000s in repairs starting from a few months after purchasing it.

Piece of Junk - 2002 Dodge Durango
By Eric - January 10 - 6:26 pmI loved this car until the camshaft sheared off parts at 59k miles and cost me $2200 in repairs. Modern cars should not have camshafts breaking for no reason at 59,000 miles! This will be the last American car I buy.

She had to have it - 2002 Dodge Durango
By DavedoesntlikeDodge - April 6 - 2:00 amMy wife loved the look of the Durango. The sale was high pressure, but we did get a very good deal $7000 below sticker price. When we got it the ground strap wasnt hooked up, the rear washer didnt work, and the folding seats stuck, lack of attention to detail. They worked on the seat twice and still it doesnt work that good, a poorly designed and finished hinge/latch piece. The battery died at 24,000 miles and it runs rough if it hasnt run for a while. I do my own maintance, the lack of a gasket of the transmission pan is just stupid. Our dealer service experiences have been terrible and we will never again buy a Dodge or Chyrsler product.

They have ruined the Durango! - 2002 Dodge Durango
By The Big dawg - August 21 - 2:00 amWE own a 1999 durango and test drove a 2002. The 1999 is far better. It has a bigger engine 5.2 vs 4.7. Most of all, the AC in our 99 is far better to the 2002. In places like Phoenix AZ, Dallas Texas, Atlanta GA, ETC, the superior AC is very important!!!!!!!

Looks nice, but dont tow with it! - 2002 Dodge Durango
By sburkett - April 22 - 10:00 amLots of interior room, even the third row seats are usable by adults. Interior quality is good, not flashy, but everything you need is right at hand and functional. Seemed like the perfect balance of size, seating capacity and towing capabilities. But two trips out with our 6000 pound trailer, and both resulted in a blown out rear end. Chrysler will only fix broken parts, refuses to look into cause, so well probably be on rear end number three next week. Truck has 3000 miles on it and is currently stranded 200 miles from home.
