Overview & Reviews
Only a year after a complete redesign, the 2006 Dodge Dakota has undergone a number of changes. Among the updates are a new optional sunroof, upgraded audio systems with a jack for portable music players, extended-cab rear doors that open nearly 180 degrees and a revised four-speed automatic transmission that improves fuel economy on V6 models. New packages this year include the TRX with unique wheels and off-road tires, the R/T with a high-output V8 and appearance package, and the Night Runner that features unique blacked-out paint treatment.
- Roomy interior, nimble handling, strong engine lineup, choice of part-time or full-time four-wheel drive, full-size pickup towing capacity.
- No long-bed models, plasticky interior, high price.

Great truck - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By ikestine - October 21 - 9:24 pmTraded in a Kia Rio for this wonderful truck. It has a very quiet ride and is very roomy. The interior is nice with some composite graphite on the dash and white tach with bold black letters. The lights glow blue on dash at night. The overall look of this truck is very nice. Dodge has one my family over.

Gas Hog - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By dp - October 20 - 9:03 pmI have owned my Dakota for one year now and Ive put 25k miles on it. Belt tensioner went out at 18k miles and left me stranded with an overheated truck. Fuel economy is pathetic. Ive never gotten more than 16 mpgs on the highway and I get about 12 in the city at best. This is a great work truck, but I would not recommend it as a daily commuter vehicle.

V6 - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By Tony - October 13 - 3:39 pmI love mine, but the V6 in 6 speed is under powered, especially when towing a small trailer 4 x 6 with a mid size ATV. Also the rear suspension could use a beefier upgrade. And lose those small drivers and passenger mirros. Put the folding ones on. I did, now no big blind spots.

Sad power - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By Tkrutz - September 18 - 10:24 pmNot very happy with the power in reverse when in 4x4. I can not get the rpm over 2000 and the engine will bog down. The service center completed a software upgrade to help this, however the 3.7 v6 just is a weak engine. I have tried other trucks at the dealer that match mine, and all have poor power to point of not being able to pull itself backwards out of a small incline

My first new truck - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By Randy - August 30 - 8:34 pmJust drove 1250 miles nonstop, not a problem with driving comfort or performance. This is a great little truck. She could be a bit stronger in acceleration with the V6 engine.

New truck - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By al - August 29 - 11:49 pmIt is a very comfortable ride. Fun to drive. I use it everyday to and from work and errands. The side doors are very handy for the little ones to get in and out of the truck.

Good, quality truck - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By TD - August 21 - 8:03 pmAlthough Ive only had my truck about 2 weeks, I am very pleased with it. Very comfortable and handles great. Extremely quiet for a V6. Good to have a CD player/AUX plug for MP3 and iPODS standard. Good gas mileage for a midsize (this is not a compact) pickup. Couldnt be happier riding around in the Texas heat!

Pleased so far - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By davey - August 21 - 12:22 amA nice truck, however the fuel mileage is not as rated. So far it is 14+ in the city. I will give it some time to loosen up. Great truck. I am glad I own it.

Great Truck - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By Ronnie Edwards - July 27 - 12:08 amI love my Dakota. I purchased a Colorado in 05 and soon after saw the new Dakota and wanted one. I finally made that choice about a month ago and I am glad I did so. Of course the gas mileage isnt as great but the difference isnt that drastic. Other things such as ride comfort, looks and standard features make up for it.

Great Full Size Alternative - 2006 Dodge Dakota
By L.T. - April 24 - 12:24 pmI bought this truck to downsize from an 03 1500 4x4 and have really not looked back. The gas mileage is so much better and that saves a lot of money. The only real difference is the bed space, but I rarely used all 8 ft. of my old bed anyway. The Dakota is very nimble, easy to park, and extremely quiet on the highway. I would recommend this truck to anyone that occasionaly needs a truck for hauling, but still needs comfort, economy, agility for everyday use. Probably not the best choice for the hardcore rancher with 12,000lbs. to pull, but a great choice for the active weekender. I am very happy with my purchase!
