This Year's Model Updates:

The 2001 Dodge Dakota gets a redesigned interior with upgraded audio components, optional steering wheel controls, larger exterior mirrors and a redesigned front fascia on the Sport models. Four-wheel-drive models get a dash-mounted, electronically controlled transfer case. New 15x7-inch cast aluminum wheels are standard on Sport and SLT models and a leather interior is now available in Quad Cab models. Quad Cabs also benefit from front seatbelt pre-tensioners, Club Cabs have added rear window defrost as an option, and Sentry Key Engine Immobilizer technology is now part of the optional security alarm system. Finally, the 3.9-liter V6 and 4.7-liter and 5.9-liter V8 engines meet low-emission vehicle standards for 2001.

Pros:
  • Four full-size doors on Quad Cabs, tons of interior room, attractive styling, stout 4.7-liter V8.
Cons:
  • Fuel consumption with the 5.9-liter V8, no R/T Quad Cab offered.

  • Great truck, good looks, good handling - 2001 Dodge Dakota

I have had my Dakota since August of 01 and in that time I have never had any problems with it what so ever. The only thing that I have done to since I bought it is replace the serpentine belt at forty thousand miles. Other than that she has run like a dream and I wouldnt trade it for the world.

Back to dealer 8 times. Needed front brakes at 16,000 not under warranty. Also had to replace master cylinder, rear brake cylinders. Brakes still not workign right. Dealer service terrible. Now in shop at 23,000 miles needing new rack and pinion unit, front crankcase seal leaking oil, transmission needs rebuild, stereo fried, passenger door internal components for latch all need to be replaced. Its been in the shop 4 days and dealer refuses loaner because no extended warranty purchased. Never another Dodge. See www.dodgedakotas.com for info on all problems with this truck.

We just bought a used quad cab Dakota and it was an excellent buy. We got the 5.9L V8 and were getting like 16.8 mpg. It also has flowmasters on it and sounds wonderful. This trucks fulfills all my needs in a vehicle. It was a great buy!

I drove my new truck home. I had it towed back to the dealer an hour later. The radiator hose came off in my driveway. Ive had the heater core replaced,it leaked on the floor of the cab. I had the steering column replaced, the tilt wheel lever came off in my hand. Other then these problems I love it. Thats what warranties are for.

After 36,000 mile i have on my truck still running smooth. my is a 5 speed i use my truck driving on highway and easy tour around my place. the V-6 is little weak like the chev s-10 and the ford ranger should use a little kick out of it of the v-6 gas mile not bad i getting anything 22-24 mile a gal. just cost alot money fill up the gas pump.

  • Enjoying it so far! - 2001 Dodge Dakota

I purchased the truck new and have commuted in Atlanta traffic for the past 3 years in it. The ride is better than most all trucks of the same, or larger, caliber but small enough to manuver the jerks of the road. Good power range but the only draw back would be the auto-trans shifting too hard.

My silver 2001 2WD Quad Cab with 4.7L has been a dream. I use the bed a lot more than I thought. Suggestions, get a LINE-X bed liner, not a factory plastic one. The LINE-X beds look and perform great. Also, make sure to run mid grade gas or youll get some pinging. The higher driving position of the 4WD version is appealing but Im still glad I got the 2WD version for a little better mileage. My console tells me Ive averaged 17.1mpg overall. Definitely get the 4.7L, the 3.9 was weak during the test drive.
