  • 318 + 5 spd + 4wd = fun times. - 1999 Dodge Dakota

Not great gas mileage even with w/ 3.54 gears and 31 inch factory tires. Ball joints and cat @ 30,000 miles (warrantee). Speed sensor @ 140,000 miles. Everything still straight and square despite a couple of airborne episodes. 160,000 miles and just did front brake pads. Rears 60% OK. Got 2,600# payload package - fantastic - has narrowed Ram rear end and springs. Hauls wood, gravel, soil, camping stuff, farm supplies. Heavier than a full-size Chevy!

  • Got a Hemi? NO! its a Honda Engine! - 1999 Dodge Dakota

I will not be teaching my child how to say Hemi! My child will be saying"HONDA" As I just purchased a new Saturn Vue with the Honda Engine. I will never buy a Dodge Product again. all before 95000 miles, HERE WE GO.... Power steering pump, water pump, fan clutch, ball joints, transmission... this is way to much to be happening to this vehicle. To prove my point further, my wife drove this truck so gentle, at 95,000 it still has the original brakes. STAY AWAY FROM DODGE IF YOU WANT QUALITY!!!!!!

3.9L sluggish, hesitates at higher speeds, turning ratio is terrible.

  • Great truck! - 1999 Dodge Dakota

I love the Dodge Dakota. Its the perfect size truck, not too big to drive in the city but big enough to haul around what you need. Its got a ton of power with the 318 and with 4x4 you have to traction to put it down. This thing handles great both on and off the road. I would recommend this truck to anyone.

  • Solid well built truck. - 1999 Dodge Dakota

OK this a well built american truck all those who disagree probably drive a toyota. my truck was bought @ 90k miles i have had it for a year and 16k on it. I have replace the cat and soon ball joints. Ball joints are normal to go out look and fords an chevys the eat them like they are nothing the cat was replaced w/ after market those who used factory obviously dont know cars. the tranny still shifts well and seems to be very strong. all in all this is one of the best truck i have been in.

  • Best "compact truck" buy you can make!] - 1999 Dodge Dakota

Ive had this vehicle for about three months now and have had no problems at all. It has over 85,000 miles on it but the 318 ci (5.2L) still runs as strong as ever. I take meticulous care of her as she is an older vehicle but there isnt a thing to complain about. I was backed into by a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it totaled the Jeep but put only a 1/2 inch dent in my bumper. I am super immpressed with the acceleration of this truck and its ability to effortlessly "peel out". Overall this is an outstanding truck.

  • Nothing but problems - 1999 Dodge Dakota

At 60K the good looking truck went downhill underneath. With the money I have invested into the truck I would have been better off buying a brand new full size (GM or foreign) built. I definitely have a sour taste in my mouth. I know someone else that is following my footsteps at 60K. So, look out if you are approaching that mileage. Be prepared for ball joints (both in front), transmission (atleast once), transfer case, water pump, tie rods, brakes (atleast once), battery cables, etc. Just a forewarning!

  • Buggy since new - 1999 Dodge Dakota

Nice truck but lots of bugs and mechanical woes. Two converters, alternator, fan clutch, ball joints, and many other complaints to list! Its too bad the quality of parts are so bad, this would be a great truck otherwise. Will not buy another one unless Dodge wakes up and fixes all this.

  • truck is horrible - 1999 Dodge Dakota

catalyic converter is shot and from these reviews it is a common problem the automatic shifter column is a toy it is off about 1/4 inch so u dont know if your in drive or 2nd gear, the exterior mirrors dont fold in this truck is in desparate need of a redesign. your better off with a nissan frontier

Happiness is passing everything on the road in your Dodge Dakota! The Dakota is great on the road and in the city, and by adding a hard Tonneau cover, I increased the gas mileage by 2 mpg. Off road, Ive had this truck in some rough terrain in the Rocky Mountains, southern Utah, and the southwest and in all applications it has taken me where I wanted to go with complete confidence. I have had very few repairs. My original brakes lasted 72,000 miles. I love this truck!
