Overview & Reviews
The biggest change this year is design oriented -- the 2000 Dodge Dakota is now available with four full-size doors, and with that comes a family name: Quad Cab. A 4.7-liter V8 has been added, but the 8-foot bed is gone. You can select from five more colors as well.
- Four full-size doors, tons of interior room, great-looking pickup.

Useful and Reliable - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By mrish - March 21 - 8:28 pmI bought my 00 Dakota SLT 4.7 v8 4x4 brand new in 2000. It currently has 195k miles on it and runs great. Doesnt burn oil, doesnt smoke, and doesnt even have an oil leak. The only problems I ve had is 2x freeze plugs, 2x speed sensors, and one oxygen sensor. Ive pulled a Kubota 4wd tractor, a Massey Ferguson, and pulled a fullsize truck on a trailer 300 miles. The 4WD has worked great and the limited slip rear diff. has got me out places that other 4x4s couldnt. Ive taken care of it mechanically and used semi-synthetic oil every 5k miles. I would buy this truck all over again with question.

Its a good truck - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By rbc1965 - July 27 - 4:55 pmI purchased this truck new from dealer with 1.5 miles on it for $19,000.00 Cash. My Dodge is dependable. I crashed it pretty bad once and had the dealer fix it ($6000 for repairs). After 10 years it still drives like a new truck & has NEVER stuck me anywhere. I have owned A 75 Ford Courier, A 90 Mazda B2200 and this Dodge. The 1975 Ford was the best. The 2000 Dodge is second best. The 1990 Mazda was the worst. I have kept up the tune ups and oil changes and have never had a problem with it yet. The interior is a bit cheap with plastic parts(I broke the plastic Parking Brake Release Handle & Cup holder). Other than that I am very happy with the truck.

Good Truck - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By sean - July 31 - 4:12 amThis has been a really great truck to have. I get about 25 MPG on the highway. I would advise not driving in the city as it chugs gas in crowded SoCal City roads. Ive hauled 1 trailer and didnt even notice any difficulty with the V-6. I run an aftermarket exhaust and people think I have a V-8 and want to race.

Reliable, decent mileage - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By Gregg - June 12 - 9:05 pmI bought my Dakota in November last year. Little would I know just how much I would enjoy the truck this winter with near record snowfall. It has been very reliable. Not one non-maintenance item needed for replacement. Only items replaced are the tires and the downstream O2 sensor. Other then that, not one issue. Gets about 18 mpg in the city. Can average in the low twenties with straight highway driving. Would definitely recommend this truck to someone who needs a small truck.

Comfort and Power - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By Great Ride - February 13 - 12:20 pmI bought the 00 Dakota Quad cab with its 5.9L V8 in November of 2000, brandnew with 140 miles on the ODO. Ive since put 60000m on the truck without any major issues. Heated sideview mirrors were replaced under warranty. Right side passanger widow regulator died and had to be replaced. Recent leak in the cooling system fixed with a hose replacement. Otherwise this truck has performed wonderfully for the past 8 years. Ive pulled a boat, 5 people and the bed filled with camping gears over the pass with no problems. Ive hauled 50 foot of fencing material, tons of gravel, you name it. This is the family truck to own. Its also stylish enough that wife and I drive it to the opera and ballet.

Great until 100k miles - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By Melissa42781 - January 7 - 12:28 pmI bought my Dodge in 8/04, 3 months later I got pregnant. The truck was great with a baby, though no room for all the stuff that goes with a kid. The power is great, I pulled someone out of being so stuck that the rope broke. Gas mileage was terrible. Once my truck reached 100k miles it basically pooped on me. it was one thing after another. to make a long story short I had to get rid of it. I could not afford to keep fixing it and paying the car payment. No one knew what was wrong with it. But other than that I loved it.

Fantastic Little Truck - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By Good Truck - October 26 - 10:20 amThis is my second 4wd with a v8 and it has not dissapointed. I will always buy Dodge trucks from now on. I pull a 6000lb boat with no trouble at all.

2000 Dakota Quad Cab - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By marine64 - October 25 - 8:53 amThe 2000 Dakota Quad Cab with hard shell topper was just what I wanted. It handles well in all sorts of weather. The 4.7 ltr. engine has plenty of power and get up. Only gets about 15-16 mpg in town and may 18 highway. I put a duel exhaust system on her which boosted power a bit and gives it that big truck sound. Ill certainly buy another Dakota in a few years

Most Dependable Truck Ive Ever Had - 2000 Dodge Dakota
By Dependable Truck - September 3 - 6:37 amTraveling from coast to coast with an average of 30,000 miles a year, I now have no choice but to let people know of my Dakota that I purchased new that now has 193,000 miles on it. I have the 4.7 engine and its by far the most dependable thing Ive ever owned. Ive done nothing but regular maint this whole time and it has never let me down or had any issues. Ive used the 4wd many times in the snow and mud. Ive hauled trailers that were over weight, yet not even the transmission has given me a lick of trouble. My last Dodge which was a ram 1500 had 348,000 when I traded it in. I hope to get this many on this Dakota.
