  • Good, solid, mid-sized truck - 1995 Dodge Dakota

V6, Auto, Purchased with 120k miles, now just past 200k. I have performed regular maintenance. Good solid truck that I have used to tow, commute, travel, and frequently pull my buddies trucks out of the snow banks/mud. Currently on loan to my sister who has discovered that she likes driving it far more than she ever expected. It is finally starting to show rust (darn it). Replaced since purchase: pitman arm, timing chain, water pump, alternator, heater blower, radio, windshield, brakes, shocks, exhaust, all fluids, plugs, wires, coil, and window motor.

ive had the truck for about 5 months and I love it.. I never owned a Dodge before. Had a Geo Tracker, but I hauled 2 cars to the salvage yard and a Bronco to the mechanics shop. The v6 has the snoot I want and the power I need. I havent gotten it stuck in mud yet, but I have pulled other people out of the mud trying to follow me. It does stink on gas mileage though. I get maybe 16mpg in the city, but I dont care. Its fun to drive the hog. If someone wants a nice powerful small pickup, I would say grab life by the horns and get a Dodge.

My dad first owned the 3.9L V6 Dakota Sport and we went on family vacations and he used it for business. My mom also drove it around to and from work (errands too) for years. The Dodge has been through a lot of travels!! It now has 205,000 miles on it and is running wonderful!! Only normal fixes had to be done. Great truck. Now I own the truck and enjoy it a lot!

  • Good Workhorse (Needed de-fleeing) - 1995 Dodge Dakota

I purchased this truck new and added the extended 7 year 100000 mile warranty. Good thing I did because lots of bugs needed fixing. Some of the items I had problems with was transfer case (Replaced 5 times). Transmission leak had gasket replaced 5 times. Drive shaft joint breakage. Tailgate misaligned, cruise control quit working. Replaced radio 5 times. Despite all these problems I have had the truck 11 years and it now has over 182k miles on it. With a recent tune up on the hwy I was able to get 19mi to the gallon hwy (Over 300mi on a tank of gas). That is good for this truck. Overall I have enjoyed this vehicle because it does deliver the power when needed.

I bought this truck used with 10k on it. Ive had it for 10 years and its gotten me everywhere Ive needed to go. It averages about 22MPG with the 2.5L 4 cyl and 5-speed tranny. It gets me back and forth 20 miles to work and handles what little cargo I do haul easily. It has the original clutch even after a couple of years in San Diego dealing with rush hour traffic. I had to replace the catalytic convertor at 50k, the AC compressor around 70k and the head gasket around 100k. The radio quit just recently and it needs a new headliner. Overall though its been an efficient, reliable daily driver.

Have had this truck since it was new - regular maintenance schedule and oil changes - 2 transmission problems (Total approx. $1000) in its lifespan.

  • A Good Work-Horse - 1995 Dodge Dakota

Bought this truck used (97,000)- it was used by commercial plumber, and saw heavy use. I like the performance and gneral feel. However, there is water in the oil, and its so bad that the dipstick is rusting away - no joke. The engine is very noisy, and I had to replace the headliner when it fell down. Very solid body. Airbag Control causes radio AM to not work.

for me this has been and continues to be an excellent vehicle. The interior room is great, and it has performed with only minimal maintenance. It would recommend it without reservation

This vehicle has been good to me despite a few minor electrical problems. The drivetrain has stood up to some harsh driving, although I am usually very easy on it. This model has the 3.9L V6, which is plenty of power. There is no need for the 5.2 L unless you plan to use it as a work truck, I have towed other trucks out of ditches on muddy roads. THere have been minor oil leaks, caused by normal wear of engine seals. I would not reccomend, however, a more recent model or a different model, say a Ram. The dakota is one of the best built vehicles by dodge and one of the better trucks overall. I highly reccomend this for design and operation.

This truck was very reliable and the torque in the motor made it fun to drive. Currently have 238000 miles. Just purchased a 2003 quad cab. The 3.9 liter is not as torquey do to the added weight and larger tires. The 16 inch tires cause the motor to 250-350 less rpm and the sweet spot in 4th gear is around 75 mph.
