  • Its an OK van - 1995 Dodge Caravan
    By -

This car has been in my family for like 9 years and it was passed on to me as my first car until I graduate high school. Its a mostly reliable vehicle the only issue is the paint on the roof peeling in large pieces and I remember when I was 12 my dad had the transmission rebuilt after it failed. When I started to drive it my horn and wipers failed and had it replaced. In spite of the problems this car has had in the past its actually pretty dependable and Im sure it can go another 75k to 100k miles with 120k on the odometer without a major powertrain break down.

  • Transmission Problems - 1995 Dodge Caravan
    By -

My parents bought new in 95. It has been through the family a couple of times. Its had regular maintenance. We had lifetime oil changes from the dealer, but they changed it from 3k to 7.5k, so its about 1 out of every 3 oil changes are free. It burns 1 - 1.5 quarts of oil in between oil changes. The transmission was replaced at 150k and it had metal in it at 250k. Its having problems again, but it has 293k miles. If you change the oil ever 3k miles, brakes and tires it will run forever. Im on my 3rd driver seat and the fr passenger is wobbly. The tapedeck quit (replace w/ CD) and the A/C went out ($1,000 fix, not worth it). Window motor peters out, only goes 3" down.

  • Just keeps on rolling - 1995 Dodge Caravan

I have owned this van for the past two years and it just keeps on rolling. The transmission is as smooth as new and the engine cranks everytime. The air blows cold and it is one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. I bought it with 113000 miles on it and at 140000 it is just ticking along. I said I was going to drive it until the wheels fell off. They may never do that.

  • Best Vehicle Ive Ever Owned! - 1995 Dodge Caravan
    By -

Ive had many cars. Bought Caravan at 40K, now at 125K. Ill never give it up! Just back from 11th Florida trip, 2500 miles. Family prefers van over the newer BMW7 Series for comfort and room. 3.0V6 more powerful than you expect up to 90mph. 30mpg on trips. 80 is still effortless. Upgraded struts and shocks made it fun to drive! Change antifreeze every 2 years. Add BarsLeak, head gasket wont go. Change oil at 3,000 miles, synthetic. Add stop leak every other time and engine seals wont leak. Service trans every 30K. Chrysler has a hidden trans warranty to 100K, ask. Mine went at 70,000 miles, well after warranty. I now have lifetime warranty! Good van.

  • Could be better re:tranny/materials - 1995 Dodge Caravan
    By -

Our Caravan has been very reliable outside of that much-too-common transmission failure. Fortunately ours only required new seals and internal parts and we "convinced" Chrysler to pick up 1/2 the $2000 cost. It is a real shame that Chrysler didnt resolve this problem MUCH earlier as it seems to be a problem right up to 2001 models. It must be noted that many other companies have tranny problems in their mini-vans including Honda, Ford and that Toyota has severe engine sludging and failure issues. Fortunately our paint, air conditioning and most features have been very good and had minimal problems.

  • Old Reliable - 1995 Dodge Caravan

I bought my van with 71K on it and now have over 195K. Other than tires, brakes, O2 sensor, and regular oil changes, the transmission (rebuilt once) has been its only Achilles heel. I put about 6000 miles a year towing and it has been an excellent vehicle. It has good power, more room than most SUVs due to the removable seats, and gets better gas mileage.

  • The Original Minivan - 1995 Dodge Caravan
    By -

Used this C/V as work vehicle, drove hard in northern winters. Unit held up impressively well considering I was hauling maximum gross weight and pushed it to the service limits. Yes, the transmission failed at 98,000 but after o-haul no other significant problems aside from the routine maintenance of tires, brakes, shocks, sensors. V6 is an excellent engine. Had more problems with my 2000 than with this unit. Wouls consider another used van for winter and hard driving conditions.

  • Great Auto - 1995 Dodge Caravan

I am an original owner. It has never broke down. Regular maintenance only except SBS fix, and a few leaks fixes. I am still using to pull my coleman folding trailer.

  • Reliable except for transmission!!!! - 1995 Dodge Caravan
    By -

I am not exactly sure what model I have. Its a unique combination of the 3.O, 6 cylinder engine with the very terrible, 3 speed auto transmission. Other than the 4 tansmission rebuilds including one replacement factory reman., the van has been extremely reliable. The engine has been wonderful, I get 23 mpg average, and other than the $4,000 I have spent on the tranny, and an occasional problem with the throttle control sensor, I love this vehicle. I have 143,000 miles on it, use it for camping with seats removed, and would continue to drive it indefinately if I was sure that the last rebuild would last beyond the 6,000 mile warranty!
