This Year's Model Updates:

This fully redesigned Trailblazer now sports a longer, wider and noticeably stiffer chassis, along with an all-new 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine and a more refined suspension that is light years ahead of its predecessor, the Blazer. Unique sheet metal now differentiates the Trailblazer from its GM cousins, the GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada, while a restyled interior makes better use of the additional passenger room inside.

Pros:
  • Class-leading engine power, forgiving ride, room for seven in the EXT version.
Cons:

Gas mileage not very good, for the first few months got 9 mpg, now, in third year of ownership it is getting 13 mpg. Still has not reached the 15 city 20 highway that was on the window sticker! Lots of little things never did or do work right, even after telling the dealership. Example: the mirrors on the side of the vehicle take on a life of their own and move and readjust so that they are rarely in place when you need them. Other than that, the vehicle looks okay, but I would not buy it again.

  • Chevy Owner - Never Again! - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

This was the worst Chevy I have ever owned. Previously, we were religous Chevy buyers...never again. The air conditioner broke, and it took the dealership 3 weeks to fix, the windshield wipers broke, the fuel tank split, and the engine needed to be replaced after 40K miles. This vehicle spent more time in the shop than it did on the road. We never used it for off-roading, or towing anything, it was mainly used for long highway trips. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone! Dont be fooled by the nice exterior or interior...it is a piece of junk!

  • Major Headache - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

I purchased this vehicle used in 2002. The day after I bought it the headlight burned out and melted the socket for the bulb. A week later it melted the rear brake light circuit board. Not too much long after that, we had problems with the engine, it ate two batteries in a week, and now it still has a knock in the engine. The rear liftgate handle has broken on the inside, the driver side interior door panel is falling off, the plastic moldings around the handles are falling off, and the weather stripping is falling off. Needless to say this will bemy last Chevy purchase. Do not buy this model year Trailblazer. Its not worth the headache.

  • Too Many Problems - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

I am a big GM fan, but this vehicle has issues. The ignitions switch went bad at 60k miles. My 4wd selector switch has been replaced, but is already acting up again. I love the look and ride of the vehicle, but a $35k vehicle is supposed to be reliable for more than 1 year!!!!!

  • Coulda been better - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Several problems damper this otherwise fine vehicle. Lots of wind noise is the most apparent at speeds above 50 MPH. Front passenger seat belt locks up continuously. Fuel range...listed as 400 miles per tank...yeah...maybe if you drive the highway at 55 mph...otherwise expect mid to low 300 miles from full tank. Back seat uncomfortable...especially around foot area....other than I like it.

  • So much hope, so little in return - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

I purchased a new TB over 3 yrs ago, with the intention of this being my "I finally made it!!" vehicle.... well, I have made it to the dealership and various repair shops countless times.... almost all of the problems you can read in other reviews, I have experienced them as well.... wind whistling with the windows up, tail light failures, mysterious rattles/noises, shifts into 4wd by itself.... the most disconcerting problem is the transmission, which bucks from first to second when cold, and also lunges just before coming to a complete stop.... the transmission finally blew up at 83k, of which 95% were highway miles.... cannot wait to rid myself of this scourge.... never again!!

  • 2nd row doors tough to open... - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
    By -

The wiper module has failed 2x. The 2nd seat doors have failed 9x. The 2nd row blower has failed once. The rear tailight has had two repairs. There have been 2 front end repairs in excess of $1K. More repairs that result in lost work time too many to remember. Not what you expect from a new car. Numerous recalls..Chevy extended the old Trailblazer & did a poor job. The undercarriage has a center cross beam that drags on the beach & offroad. YUCK! The only good news is the 3rd road seat comfort. Corporate has yet to accept the design failure on the doors. Avoid this 1st year model like the plague & check the reports on subsequent years.

  • Will never purchase GM again! - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

We fell into the purchase of this Trailblazer. Previously owned a Pontiac Montana EXT which turned out to be the worst vehicle ever. Tried to trade in for a foreign vehicle and could not get rid of it. Went to Chevy, and of course, they allowed us to trade for the Trailblazer. I loved the vehicle at first, exactly one year after puchase the transmission broke. Fortuneately, we have had not other tranny problems (knock on wood). The wind noise is pronounced, the luggage rack squeaks when outside temperature is cold, and had to replace rear brake light. Gas mileage is horrible for an in-line six. Bottom line, I will never buy another GM vehicle EVER!

  • My 1st SUV - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Great Power. Great Handeling. Had problems with air conditioning....repair people cant figure out what is wrong with it. Engine runs terribly when hovering around 55mph. After sale service sucks. Definately buying a toyota 4- runner next time.

I have had numerous warranty issues. I am on my third radio because the buttons are painted on with black paint. Very cheap looking interior. Would not recommend buying. Too much money for poor quality.
