This Year's Model Updates:

This fully redesigned Trailblazer now sports a longer, wider and noticeably stiffer chassis, along with an all-new 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine and a more refined suspension that is light years ahead of its predecessor, the Blazer. Unique sheet metal now differentiates the Trailblazer from its GM cousins, the GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada, while a restyled interior makes better use of the additional passenger room inside.

Pros:
  • Class-leading engine power, forgiving ride, room for seven in the EXT version.
Cons:

Vast interior volume improvement over the blazer. The new engine does not feel as if it is unleashing 270 hp. Build Quality is still questionable. I have had mine in the shop for electrical problems and as of yesterday it left me on the side of the road due to an electronic malfunction. I beginning to think FORD.

The vehicle rolls backwards while stopped on an incline. The transmission slip between 3rd and 4th gear. The trim level was not available in the LTZ on the extended trailblazer. The front end is very sloppy when needing to swirve. When the window/s are open the vehicle is very noisy. The headliner seems to be very flimsy especially when pulling on the hand rails. The front seats are a bit uncomfortable with the leather package. The second row seat is slanted making it uncorfortable for some passengers. The front console is poorly designed, causing the shifter to ram into your coffee cups. The overhead is not large enough for two pairs of sunglasses.

  • Okay for the Money - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

This was the first Chevy I have owned and for the first few months it was great. I had to take it in for several recalls (3x) and about 6 times for rear brake lights. I have spent about $2000 in repairs for misc items. The CD player is now having problems switching between radio and cd player on its own. Now the computer is going out. I guess for the money it is okay, but would suggest only keeping it for a few years and then trading it in for something else.

In the shop at least monthly. The battery was randomly going dead. (bad cell). Power windows have had to be repaired. Rear brake lights module has gone out twice. Four-wheel drive module went out (4-wheel drive would not work). Power lumbar support motor went out. Wipers quit working. Trailer light plug quit working. Consistent rattle in the engine compartment on exceleration since purchase (shop cant find). Now there is a VERY loud high pitch sound coming from the motor. We would like to trade it in but the resale is so poor. After purchasing it one year ago for over $30,000, the trade in value is barely $20,000.

  • No Resale Value - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

The TrailBlazer as well as all GM vehicles has no resale value. The vehicle that you paid $30000 18 months ago is now only worth $17000 in excellant condition.

  • WHERES MY TRANSMISSION ? - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
    By -

At 35,000 miles I lost reverse, second and my overdrive gears. The GM technician commented that there were problems like mine in the GM trucks that have identical transmissions. At 74,000 miles it fails again. Now here I sit, thinking GM will stand behind their product. WRONG!!! I asked GM if they are able to build a transmission that could last more than 35,000 miles...they laughed at me. I work for Goodyear/Gemini and you only have one shot with your customer. GM blew it!!! I would never treat my customers this way if I knew they felt uncomfortable with any product or service that I sold. BUY TOYOTA!!! Your best deal is great service, not a great price.

within the first year, weather molding on all four doors fell off. Dealer wound up gluing on to make it stay. They said it was a poor design. Climate control went out and had to be replaced. Driver front window regulator had to be repaired twice. Fuel guage quit and sending unit had to be replaced. Emergency brake cable broke and had to be replaced. You have to move front seats forward in order to lower rear seats. Problem when you have long legs.

  • Buyer Beware - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
    By -

I bought this Chevy used. I knew the risk but car looked great, low miles and great used price. Did not buy an extended warranty because the car only had 28,000 miles and was in excellent condition. Three months and two car payments later the trnasmission falls apart on a car with 31,000 miles. Unlike many of its competitors, Chevy does not offer a 5 year warranty on the power train of the Trailblazer. Wonder why? Chevy knows this should not have happened but we still had to pay big. (Chevy did split the price with us). This car is junk. Do not buy! If you have to have it, buy a very good extended warranty.

Tens of mechanical problems, roof lining fell off, engine got stuck in first gear, needed towtruck, hydro sterring wheel pump failed, needed towtruck, had to replace motor and sensor of fan, 4x4 selector on dashboard had problems, jump from one gear to another, had to be replaced, to check the air pressure in the spare tire requieres to lower the tire from its niche. Big problem. Stops lights connectors are tiny wires that with vibration get loose, you have to put them apart to tighten them. Drivers seat is as comfortable as sitting on nails, the rest of the seat are ok. Wheather trim on right front door fell off. Can´t wait to sell it. Too bad it´s a company car and have to wait a year.

  • DealerBlazer - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

With all the problems with this SUV, it should be called a DealerBlazer. Its been in for problems six times in the first year. Now it is currently back at the dealer because the four wheel drive would not work. The dealer got it to work and couldnt get it to turn off. Nothing but major electrical problems, ranging from the four wheel drive to the seats, mirrors and alarm. Back window leaks have been fixed 4 times. Poor handling and seat comfort as well. Dont waste your money. Avoid it. For $36000 its a big waste of money.
