This Year's Model Updates:

This fully redesigned Trailblazer now sports a longer, wider and noticeably stiffer chassis, along with an all-new 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine and a more refined suspension that is light years ahead of its predecessor, the Blazer. Unique sheet metal now differentiates the Trailblazer from its GM cousins, the GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada, while a restyled interior makes better use of the additional passenger room inside.

Pros:
  • Class-leading engine power, forgiving ride, room for seven in the EXT version.

this has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. You get a lot of bang for the buck with this SUV. Performance is great and it has a smooth, car-like ride. When this vehicle first came out it had a lot of advancements that were firsts on an SUV, like steel reinforced hydraformed side rails for safety, and a smooth powerful european inline 6 cylinder. Besides normal wear and tear maintanance costs and some dealer recalls, the vehicle has been very reliable.

  • So far so good - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Only 900 miles so far, mostly city, and driving, comfort, sense of security and somewhat fresh styling are all making me glad I bought it. Vehicle is a big hit with family and friends, partly due to plush LTZ features. But the truck has a nice sturdy feel. While I give a slight edge to Envoys exterior, I went for "it is what it is" simplicity of the Chevy interior vs. the Envoy "wanna be luxury" styling. Flexible dealer, great price made this a value not to walkaway from.

I purchased a new TB over 3 yrs ago, with the intention of this being my "I finally made it!!" vehicle.... well, I have made it to the dealership and various repair shops countless times.... almost all of the problems you can read in other reviews, I have experienced them as well.... wind whistling with the windows up, tail light failures, mysterious rattles/noises, shifts into 4wd by itself.... the most disconcerting problem is the transmission, which bucks from first to second when cold, and also lunges just before coming to a complete stop.... the transmission finally blew up at 83k, of which 95% were highway miles.... cannot wait to rid myself of this scourge.... never again!!

  • Why did I buy this car? - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

When I bought my Trailblazer I was excited because I had a new SUV. But that feeling was short lived. After 3.5 years driving this car I am tired of the wind noise, the rough ride, the body roll, the seat belts, and the poorly designed seats. I have also had a number of mechanical problems with my SUV and at least 7 recalls. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants good gas mileage or a comfortable ride. It does have alot of cargo capasity which has come in handy with large loads. It can also easily haul a horse trailer.

Overall we love the Trail Blazer, it is a pleasure to drive. It is quite and smooth with little road noise. The gauges are plan and easy to see and read. Road visibility is very good. The stock sound system is above normal in quality and performance. The drive train is sound and powerful. 2WD likes to change on its own to AWD and/or 4WD and some times it feels like the truck could easily be rolled if turning to quickly. Not happy about the three recalls but they were taken care of in a timely manner.

We bought our trailblazer new in July, 2001. We were attracted by the size (not too big) and design. We occasionally pull an 18 foot boat and the towing ability is excellent. Also, it is very comfortable for trips and safe for my wife to drive around town. Our LTZ came with all of the "bells and whistles" availabe when they first came out. We had a choice between a DVD player or sunroof, and chose the roof.

I really enjoy driving it when it is not having problems. It is a company car that gets every dealership recommended service and oil changes at 3K miles however, there have been several recalls, transmission failure at 38K miles, 4wd went out, electrical issues that impacted tail light, air conditioning and rear wiper, horrible noise when turning sharply in 4wd that had to be fixed, parking break stopped working. Though I enjoy driving it, I am reluctant to buy another one for fear of spending several times a year at the dealership.

Great vehicle at an affordable price. Lots of extras, fun to drive, plenty of power, nice extras on the 1SB package.

  • 2nd row doors tough to open... - 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
    By -

The wiper module has failed 2x. The 2nd seat doors have failed 9x. The 2nd row blower has failed once. The rear tailight has had two repairs. There have been 2 front end repairs in excess of $1K. More repairs that result in lost work time too many to remember. Not what you expect from a new car. Numerous recalls..Chevy extended the old Trailblazer & did a poor job. The undercarriage has a center cross beam that drags on the beach & offroad. YUCK! The only good news is the 3rd road seat comfort. Corporate has yet to accept the design failure on the doors. Avoid this 1st year model like the plague & check the reports on subsequent years.
