This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, a new trim package, named The North Face Edition, comes with items that Chevy hopes will attract people who like to venture off the beaten path. Starting with a TrailBlazer LTZ or TrailBlazer EXT with the Leather Plus Package, Chevy adds body-color cladding, unique seats, mesh map pockets, rain-sensing wipers, liftgate lighting, an underfloor storage cargo liner, heavy-duty cargo mats, an adjustable cargo shelf (EXT model only) and The North Face duffel bags and blanket. Not for you? Perhaps a V8 will suit your fancy. Chevy's 5.3-liter V8 is available on the TrailBlazer EXT only. Other changes for 2003 include a larger 22-gallon fuel tank (late fall availability) and additional child-seat anchors on EXT models. Chevy has also made some previously standard equipment optional, such as the side airbags, rear cargo shade, interior lighting and auto-dimming driver-side mirror.

Pros:
  • Class-leading engine power, soft highway ride, room for seven in the EXT version.

Took the new Trtailblazer on a 6000 mile trip from California through Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. It was very comfortable driving 600 to 800 miles a day. Did not feel exhausted after spending that much time driving. Fuel economy was very good on the highway, but dropped off somewhat in city driving. The in line six engine ran very smooth and it was a pleasure to drive.

This vehicle is another typical poorly snapped together American tin can. My wife and I decided to be loyalto the US manufacturers, and I have not had a US made car since my Dodge Dart slant 6, which was ugly but reliable! This TrailBlazer was aptly named. Hit the trail and something under the hood will soon be ablaze, as I was told when I had an engine fire at 5,342 miles that was due to oil that spilled on the block. I disagree, since it looks like it originated from a cluster of wires that looks like a rats nest. Then my transmisssion completley failed at 19,456 miles and needed to be completley replaced. They blamed it on us saying we had driven the car hard. We use it to shop!

Over the past 3 years, very little complaints from me. Comfortable seating for all with lots of room. Not one single problem with the engine. It turns on a dime and the pick up it a bit sluggish but good enough. Not bad on gas getting 21mph on the highway and 16-18mph in town.

This is the third SUV weve owned. The first was a Grand Cherokee and then a standard 4-door Blazer. This is by far the nicest family size vehicle weve ever owned. We are amazed at the roominess in the third row seats. You really can seat 7 full size adults in this vehicle, just like Chevy advertises. The performance and handling are superior to every SUV and pickup weve ever owned. The interior is well laid out and well put together. All in all, a joy to own and drive, so far.

As a family of four, the TrailBlazer has served us well and lived up to the utility in "SUV". We are currently looking at a new one.

Ive had dozens of vehicles in my life and my Trailblazer, knock on wood, has been the most reliable so far. The ride is fantastic and smoother than any other SUV out there (and trust me...I looked at everything out there prior to purchasing). I was all set to get a full size SUV like a Tahoe, but my wife really liked the Trailblazers size, not too big and not too small. Not having a third seat (I opted not to go for the extended length version because I thought the looks were less appealing) will probably disuade some buyers but I really didnt have a need for it. My only complaint is that it doesnt get 30 mpg, but then no SUV does. Lets see if I am still happy 2-3 years from now.

  • Dont buy one - 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

I have own mind for three years. It has the V8, and it does get up and go. But its been in the shop for things like two new transmisions, still giving me trouble as I write this. Several air conditioning problems since new, and finally last year it ate it self up and they had to replace the whole air conditioner, including all the belts. Right now I have a light on the dash telling me according to the dealer that I have to pay $350 for them to tell me why? I purchase the added protection just about everything they wanted me to purchase, now its all ran out! Before the warranty ran out I was protected. What do I do now since the dealer told me that the air bags arent working?

  • Great vehicle - 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

The V-8 is very smooth and powerful. Great if you are towing anything. While the I6 is an excellent choice, the V8s 50ft/lbs of additional torque is easily noticed. Plenty of room. Try 6 people and about 14 pieces of luggage. Economy is decent for a mid size SUV. 4x4 system is great. Very comfortable vehicle to drive. Feels soft at first, but perfect after you are in the back country all day.

  • Ok when not in shop - 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Overall Ive had a pretty decent experience with my trailblazer other than when it has been in the shop to fix recall problems. Other than the recall things, I havent had any trouble with it. It has a very nice and comfortable design for travel or family. It has a lot of room in it. I use it to pack up our groups sound equipment which there is a lot of and I can tote all of that in the back plus the 5 of us in the front comfortably.
