The base trim level has been dropped. New for this year on LS are standard six-way power driver and front passenger seats, heated outside mirrors, exterior side steps that make getting in and out easier and the HomeLink system that can be programmed to control automatic garage doors or community gates all from one keypad. 5300 V8s can now burn gasoline/ethanol mixed fuels.
- Choice of powerful Vortec V8s, cavernous cargo space, room for nine.
- Gas guzzler, its massive size is a liability in urban areas.

The most unreliable vehicle... - 2002 Chevrolet Suburban
By whitt - January 3 - 9:28 pmI have owned many General Motors vehicles in the past and have had better than average results. I purchased the Suburban for the seating capacity and the towing capability. It is a very comfortable vehicle and pulls very well. Thats the good part. To make a long story short, this truck has been in the shop 12 times in less than 2 years for various items. Some examples are 3x for replacment of steering linkage, 4x for air conditioner repair, and the latest (for which GM will lose my lifetime business) the rearend differential went out. For those not familiar with trucks, this is a part that just doesnt break. (The dealer even said so) Still GM refused to fix. Im now looking at Nissan.

By kellie - April 21 - 2:00 amI have had nothing but problems with my suburban.... from the breaks squeaking (which was never resolved, gmacs answer to that was sorry, its just how the mettallic break pads work - theres nothing we can do), to fluid leaks (steering and air conditioning)to having the seats warped- all within only two years of owning it! I will never purchase a chevy again and I suggest you dont either - at least not the suburban

Problem after Problem - 2002 Chevrolet Suburban
By Sam50 - December 21 - 2:00 amIf I can keep it out of the shop I may start to like it. The air conditioner has broke twice with the same problem....turns on full blast and none of the controls will turn it off (even if you turn the vehicle off it still runs). CD player broker after only using it 10 minutes. The brakes squeal most of the time and the dealer says that is normal. The Firestone tires make a whine noise and the dealer said I must rotate tires after every OIL CHANGE (yeah right) to prevent cupping. The power windows squeak on roll down. The transmission slips and the dealer said its within specs. Other than the above problems the LT Sub is great (sarcasm).

A Real Disappointment - 2002 Chevrolet Suburban
By BHK - May 9 - 2:00 amI have never had a car with more problems than the Suburban. In 3 years, we have replaced a transmission, power steering (twice), speed sensor, manifold gasket (the list goes on and on). It is amazing that in 40+ years of making this car, it still has so many shortcomings. And, by the way, dont believe the mileage estimates -- youll get 12mpg if you are lucky!
