Overview & Reviews
For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
- Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

Great Truck for the Money - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By cwosimon - September 18 - 11:26 amGreat truck, have the 4.8 V-8, well equiped w/ trailer pkg. Very good power, handles well, good gas mileage. Not as fun as my Dodge Dakota SLT, but close and 40% better mileage. It is our trip vehicle, pulls our two jets skis, all our gear and the three of us with no problem. At 25,000 miles nothing other than normal maintenance. Well laid out interior and both front and back seat are comfortable. Will buy another is 4 or 5 years.

6.0 Liter Powerhouse - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Andy J - July 24 - 2:36 pm06 Silverado 1500 with Vortec Max package. I purchased this truck in Feb. of 08 after being T-boned in my 99 Sierra. I had been looking for the bigger 6 L. motor to pull my work trailer for a long period of time before the accident. Luckily this gem popped up when I really had to buy. I fell in love at first drive. The motors power really is something else. It responds immediately at any speed when even light pedal is put down. Mileage with this motor is great. It actually puts my old 5.3 to shame. I average 13 city(Downtown Minneapolis: True stop and go) and @ 50-55 MPH: 21 MPG/@75 MPH 18MPG. It has all the bells and whistles. Great for towing. Love it!

Pretty Darn Good - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By UTTRUCKGUY - January 11 - 8:43 pmThe truck is very solid. It has a smooth ride, quiet automatic transmission, and nice extras like automatic headlights, dual zone climate control and chrome front bumper. The seats are comfortable, but it definately needs a fold down arm rest. The stereo is ok. The interior is plain but clean looking and fits the simplicity of the work truck. I would upgrade to the V8 even though I have consistantly gotten 18 mpg with the V6. I opted for cruise control and a CD player. It is worth the extra money to get custom cloth seats and tinted windows as well. For the price, you really cant beat the quality.
