This Year's Model Updates:

Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

  • Great work truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

My 4.3 came with an automatic, a 40/20/40 cloth seat and not a whole lot else, pretty stripped down model. I got a better deal on the Chevy then any comparable Dodge or Ford. Nothing came close. I am a big man, and the truck fits me fine, handles well and is relatively easy to manuever. I had a Dodge van. The 4.3 is a far superior motor to the Dodge V6. The seats fit so much more comfortably than the ones in my wifes Explorer. Even lacking the amenities, this is a worktruck that you wont mind driving.

This is my 2nd new chevy truck and by my best vehicle ive driven to date. The ride is solid and suspension is smooth interior niose is minimal the aluminum block 5300 vortec really moves this vehicle quite nicely, the acceleration is that of a sports car almost Vette like and makes it very fun to drive. interior room in the extra cab is enough for 6 adults with front bench seat and makes it perfect for a family vehicle with plenty of room to haul the grocerys or plywood for that home improvement project the fit and finish seem to be good also no rattles or squeeks Ive had no problems what so ever in the 6 mo. ive had this truck Overall Im very satisfied with my Silverado Ext Cab

  • its an all around awesome truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I love my SS ... it’s a 2003 and has 30k on at this point w/no mechanical problems ... I have towed an enclosed tandem axle 2 bike trailer to Daytona 3 times and 2 time to Myrtle ... have yet to be out launched at a light by anything including Corvettes ... yes, more power would help on the top end, but that’s the only way anything can catch you with all that traction.

  • Excellent Truck For Towing - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have owned my Silverado for about 6 months now, and I have had not one problem with the design quality. The engine performance is superb and towing isnt a problem. My 4wd reg cab SB can tow a impressivly 8,100lbs with the v8 5300. I normally tow about 4500lbs with the factory hitch at 80mph effortlessly. Towing like this, there are no major shakes or rattles, bumps are smooth and the truck handles great. I have driven a non Z71 and it was a bit smoother on pavement compared to the stardard base. But offroad performance is much better.

  • This truck cant be beat! - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have owned this truck for a little less than 2 years and have put a little over 30,000 miles on it. Its the vehicle that I use every day and I can honestly say it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It is a capable and comfortable truck that has been nothing but reliable since the day I bought it. All I have ever done is keep up with the regular servicing and it has never failed me. It has good power (5.3 V8 with 3:42 rear end) and returns a combined 17 mpg city/hwy mix all the time! The only problem I have had is that the "Z71" decals began to peel. These were replaced under warranty. That has been the only repair. Resale is very good too! Chevy has my repeat business for sure!!

  • 05 Work Truck-5 speed - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Purchased at year end as a $13,206 dollar closeout. No A/C cheap truck. Excellent value for the money- Im into the third year on this truck and its still getting 25 MPG, Repair issues (2) were covered by Chevy (Steering link bad and emissions valve on gas tank) Way past 36k cut off on warranty. Truck is driven freeway only. Still has its original tires brakes and shocks. All still good at 70k miles. Would buy another if they made it in a stick. They dont.

I love this truck. I have never had a problem with a Chevy truck. I use mine as a truck it tows and hauls practically every day. I like my truck because I drove it home and it has not had any problems whatsoever.

  • Awesome Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is my first truck and it is great. I was pleasantly surprised that I did not lose any fuel economy when I moved into this truck from a mid size SUV. Chevy truly has made a great truck. I have had the truck going on ten months. It handles wonderfully both on and off road through out various speeds. I wish would have purchased one of these sooner.

I drove my Z71 for 120k miles and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Might be the best vehicle I will every own. I remember everytime I got behind the wheel I thought it cant be this good everytime. It never let me down. For one stretch of near 10k miles I didnt reset the full mpg meter and the gage leveled off at 18.7 mpg. That was excellent for a 5.3L Never did a repair other than a couple of minor jobs under warranty. Reliability was superior to any.
