This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
Cons:
  • Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

  • Best of the bunch - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is an awesome truck. They added just the right balance of features. Everything that I wanted and almost nothing that I would not use. The suspension is a little soft in the twistys, but perfect everywhere else. The only thing that bugs me a little is a blank area on the dash. It is saved for the transmission temp on the HD model.

  • Great Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

4wd 1500 5.3L HO engine. Averaging 18.55 mpg highway and city. Great power, comfortable seats, interior is no nonsense. I would buy another in a heart beat. I put about 1.5K a month on my truck and it runs great.

  • Tried Ford &Tundra, bought Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Tried the Ford crewcab 4 wheeldrive and the Tundra doublecab 4 wheeldrive the ride, and cost made Chevy the best bang for the buck. LT3 package and Z71 is great. I had one problem. The A/C controller acted up and the dealer replaced. Alls well after 9000 miles. Im still very happy with the Chevy.

  • Overall quality is lacking - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This was my second Chevy pickup, my first being a 57 stepside. Since that old Chevy, I had evidently been spoiled by a few Fords, two Nissans and a Dodge. No complaints on any of those other pickups, but this Chevy mustve been a lemon. Everything from the battery to the temperature control to the transmission gave me trouble in the 9 months that Ive had it.

Beautiful red attracts lots of attention. Hi-test gas only; costs $62.00+ to fill. Ample accelleration, but Id like another 100 HP from the factory. With the special trim it is not possible to add a lot of the extras that typically fit trucks (i.e. running boards). It drives beautifully, has zero wind noise, and has no water leaks. Still not really enough room for people in the rear seat.

  • Better than the rest - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is a great truck. I use it as my daily driver and on the weekends it doubles into my harley hauler/drive to the woods to cut firewood truck. It is much better built than is the Ford or Dodge of this year.

  • Like a Rock as expected - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Excellent truck as expected. 1500 miles so far and outside of keeping black paint clean this truck is great! Acceleration is fantastic, much better than my old 98 chevy.

  • AWESOME TRUCK!!! - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This truck runs better than a Ford ever thought of running. The interior, I admit, it does seem a little plain, but the seat is so comfortable. It just fits. This truck runs like a scalded dog. I absolutely love this truck.

I Love my Silverado. It drives like a dream , excellent power, nice cornering. Also the fuel economy is a lot better than I had expected.

  • 2006 crew cab 4.8l - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought my truck brand new in 2006 and has been my daily driver ever since. I tow a 6000lb trailer regularly and had a western 8 plow on it for 3 years and never had a problem except for 2 blown wheel hubs. I have just over 194,000 miles and never had a problem. Ive driven dodge and ford trucks and nothing compares to the comfort and reliability of this chevy.
