This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
Cons:
  • Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

  • Best truck ever - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

We purchased this truck new for the highways and mountains of New Mexico. With 30,000 miles now it has never had to go back to the dealer for any warranty or repairs! Looks good with no rattles or problems and its solid. About 17 mpg overall. 4.11 gears and rated for 8500 lbs towing, if needed. Ive owned lots of Chevys and this is the best truck ever.

I just purchased this truck, still on the first tank of gas. Traded a 2004 chevy with 39K miles and got $6000 less than I paid. $6000 for 39000 miles is not bad, never a days trouble either. Better than the $10000 less offered to my friend for his one year old Titan with 23000 miles by the Nissan dealer. So much for the the so called great resale value of the imports. This 2006 drives like a dream. Smooth, powerful, quiet, and comfortable. Everything I could ask for.

If youre looking for a tough good looking truck, then the Chevy Silverado is for you. Although the interior is not as refined as the competition, it will hold up in any circumstance. Under the hood you can acutally see the engine, and a majority of the parts are aluminum or steel, where in the competiton there is more plastic than a little girls play house. The competition pushes luxury, but the Silverado pushes reliability and durability.

  • Love it - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Pros: 17 inch wheels, Smooth Auto transmission, Standard Tow Hooks, Price. Cons: Exhaust vibration, sounds like the truck is straining. Weak V6 engine. Fuel enconomy not worth the engine downgrade. No keyhole on passenger door. Work Truck series does not come standard with keyless entry. No arm rest on Work Truck series.

  • Fun to drive - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I tried them all and in the end it was an easy choice. I have no problems towing a boat or trailer, gets ok gas mileage, is very comfortable, and a very nice ride. By far the best truck I have ever had and I have had a Ford and a Toyota.

  • Perfect Truck for me - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Basically Im a home-owner and fix it guy. Needed a truck to drive for sales calls and around the house to haul and do home fix its. Perfect truck is this! Crew cab is huge, short bed is no problem with plywood/drywall. Simple interior but nice and respectable--much nicer than Toyotas (the other truck I was considering--T has weak engine too at 4.7).

3.73 axle ratio helps MPG: 19 city/23+ highway - great for a truck, but Id like better. Great power, chirping tires down the road. Folks complain that the interior design is old school, but I like it. Biggest issue is that the steering wheel feels off center from the seat. Great ride, fun to drive, hands down winner compared to Lariat. Big, comfortable cab is great for kids and adults. Rear radio with headphones is a hit with me and the kids. American Eagle tires are junk. Bargain for better tires. I like the 06 interior configuration better than 07.

  • Great Truck! - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This has been a fantastic truck. I average about 20 miles per gallon around town. The truck has a lot of get up and go and can spin the tires with ease. I have the 4.8 and am happy with how smoth it performs.

i really believe there should have been recalls on this truck. All of the following repairs were needed in the first 36 months i owned this truck: ABS went out; front axle seals continue to leak; rotors were replaced on both sides; nearly lost control of the truck on the highway when the front wheel bearings gave out; the 4 wheel drive automatic switch broke and shut down the 4x4 function; the drivers side door panel came loose and the entire panel had to be replaced; the plastic hinge for the center console broke off, etc etc.. Again, i believe that there should have been or should be a safety recall on this truck. Buyer beware. Thank goodness this is a leased vehicle and i return it.
