Overview & Reviews
The Silverado gets a makeover this year that includes a new front fascia and revised side moldings and taillights. Top-of-the-line models get power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators. On the inside, the Silverado is the first full-size pickup to offer a Bose stereo system and XM Satellite Radio. The instrument panel and center console have been redesigned, and Chevrolet has added new seats, a more comprehensive driver information center and a dual-zone climate control system. For increased safety, Silverados now feature a standard front-passenger-sensing system and dual-stage airbags. On the hardware side, all 4.3-liter V6-equipped Silverados and California-emission V8s are now ULEV-certified, while electronic throttle control is now standard on all V8 engines. The Autotrac four-wheel-drive system has been modified for less intrusiveness at low speeds, and the brake system received upgrades that provide better pedal feel and improved overall performance.
- Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
- Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

Good, reliable truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By robis - October 30 - 11:23 amI have had my truck for about 55,000 miles. I purchased it certified used about 3 yrs ago. I am about to turn 100,000 miles and the only problems I have had with it is a dead battery and a broken power window motor. The truck runs well and is ultra reliable. I wish the fuel economy was better (I think I get around 14 mpg). I feel like I will get another 100,000 miles out of it before it needs to be replaced. "American" car companies build trucks well...its what they do best in my opinion. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another Chevy or GM truck again, but I would aim for an extended cab for the extra room and convenience. Overall, I have been very happy with my purchase & recommend it.

boring exterior - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By jeffrety - October 6 - 10:00 amshould of been more flair to the exteior of this vehicle. no fog lamps and no real contour to the sides of the vehicle. should of put 19s int he front and 20s in the back for a better angle of the trucks appearance... overall a great vehicle fun to drive and head snapping power a little lite on the top end though top speed is 110mph a little boring for us that dont care anout spped limits.

Great Truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Dave Dico - October 6 - 10:00 amGreat ride. Quiet and comfortable. Well engineered interior, although kind of cheesy. No room behind seat and no right arm rest for driver. Handling is way above average. Turning radius isnt great, but very acceptable. Cannot exceed 98 mph because of a control module governor. Overall, excellent truck. Classy exterior design. Headlamps are awesome.

Good but... - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By markstev - September 10 - 2:00 amStarted burning oil after 22K miles. Burns 1 qt every 2000 miles and GM refuses to fix. Gm claims it is within specs to burn over 1/2 crankcase capacity between changes. Engine has great power and truck has been reliable. Except for crappy oil burning engine it has been a good truck.

Like A Rock With Wheels - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Fromsoca - September 10 - 2:00 amIn less than 5 days of buying my Silverado my radio was replaced and the passenger airbag system is faulty. Theyve checked the sensors, recalibrated and even replaced the entire front seat, the airbag system is not perfected yet. My girlfriend weighs 120-130lbs. and the auto system light on the mirror turns on/off while we drive down the road. If you have kids or adults near this range I would be cautious!! Now a month later the radio is acting up again, the airbag system is still not fixed and the transmission is starting to be jerky. From one lemon into another, Im getting my money back and going with Toyota.

Harmonic Exhaust Vibrantion - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By doubleclutch2 - September 4 - 2:00 am5000 miles of frustration trying to determine why the vehicle vibrates at 1250 rpms. People tell you the truck looks good but beauty is only skin deep and this flaw should have been determined before shipping. All this fine tuning for fuel mileage just seems to cause problems else where.

Quadrasteer - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By roadflyt - August 23 - 7:06 pmBest overall truck I have had in the last 40 yrs. Interior material is not as good as older Chevy trucks but design is good. Averages 16-18 mpg with good perfomance (5.3v8).

CHEVY SILVERADO Z71 LS - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By J.Davis - August 12 - 2:00 amI have had this truck for a little over 10 months so far and I absolutely love it. I have 16000 miles on it and have had no problems whatsoever. I love the sharp new front end and rear tail light design! I like the Vortec 5.3 but it seems like it needs a little boost in horsepower, it doesnt seem like 285, i think it should be around 300 or so. Gass mileage isnt the best i get about 300-400 miles every time i fill up. Also, the interior electronics seem out of date and need updating, but those are minor improvements. So far, the best vehicle i have ever driven!

5th Chevy truck owned - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Kevin - June 11 - 6:23 pmThis has been my 5th Chevy truck since 1990. Ive had some good ones and some not so good ones. This one so far is good except for some squeaks from the extended doors and a clunking noise in the steering. The gas mileage from the 4.8l is good at around 20mpg. The power is there when you need it. Over all this has been a good truck so far. The service department just needs to get a few bugs worked out and Ill be very happy.

First Truck, First Chevy Owned - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By CEH1960 - April 11 - 2:00 amAll in All good experience. A crack in the Windshield at 5000 miles. I think a combination of Oklahoma roads and angle of the windshield. Seems like an awful lot of chevy trucks in Oklahoma with a cracked windshield.
