This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
Cons:
  • Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

  • Plush Ride...Comfy for a big guy! - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Im not a fan of GMs much maligned interior but the LT3 makes it as nice as possible. The 10-way power leather seats are great. There is ample room in the back seat even behind me when Im driving, Im 64". The 5.3 V8 w/ the 3.42 rear end cruies the interstate effortlessly (75 mph/2000 rpm). The Bose audio system is awesome! It sounds better than the system in my father-in-laws BMW 645i that cost $90K. I like the updated grill and hood of the 2006. GM should make larger rims affordable. The factory 17s are okay but some nice brushed aluminum 20s, not optional polished chrome $2000 20s!! Also considered the Toyota (too car-like and flimsy) and Ford (worse MPG).

Awesome engine and suspension combination. I have the Earnhardt limited edition. I have added dual exhaust which I think they should come stock with.

I purchased an extended cab 1500 with the "Limited Edition" package that isnt advertised much. It came with chrome 20s, special suspension, 3.73 tranny and the 5.3 V8. XM satellite radio is free for 3 months. What sold me was the 0% financing for 72 months during the July 4th weekend. Biggest complaint is the turning radius. Seems too small for a long vehicle. Excellent power. Im chirping tires during rolling acceleration. Stiff suspension bounces you around when bed is empty. Seating for 6 is huge! I can stuff 6 adults comfortably and can still feel the power during acceleration. The overall look is mean yet distinguished. Ive had many Chevy owners asking me if this is the new model.

  • Major Dissapointment - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Bought the Silverado new in June of 06. Since then, I had a leaky radiator hose, replaced the whole front differential, a transmission leak, numerous steering problems, brake lights went out twice and a few other minor problems. Very dissapointed in this truck. My first new truck and it is nothing but a constant problem. It is in the shop now for a moaning noise in the 4x4 when turning. I am looking at an 08 Tundra or Sierra to replace this mess of a truck. Great power from the engine and ride is great. Gas mileage is okay with about 12 city and up to 17-18 highway.

We have only had our truck a few months but it is awesome. I really enjoy it and it is great to have with kids. The 4 doors are really nice. I love to drive it. The customer service with our dealership couldnt be better.

Vehicle has very good performance and handling characteristics for work application on the farm. Power is more than sufficient for any work or load requirements in the farm operation. Ease of use and performance of 4 wheel drive is excellent.

  • My Son Loves This Truck! - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought my SS used, as I do with all my trucks, and am very pleased with it. The exterior is so much better looking than the standard Silverado. It drives & rides like a Cadillac. I will never buy any other truck than a GM.

  • Crew cab review - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I love the truck, have had no problems with it. I am getting between 16 and 17.5 in the city. Large, comfortable cab. The only down fall is the bed size a little on the short side but it just does fit in the lines of parking spaces.

This truck is a great one. It does everything I need it to do. Great power and looks better than any other brand on the market. I have the LT1 with leather, and the interior looks good. Its a truck, what do you want to look like a Corvette dash? If you use a truck as a truck, this one is perfect.

  • My 12th work truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

2006 LT1 Extended cab, shortbox, 5.3LV8 4X4. I have had 12 company owned trucks so far, 8 of em Chevys. Even though we had to replace a transmission at 88,000 miles, I still rated this vehicle very high on reliability because the drive train hasnt changed in several years and this was the first major problem Ive ever encountered in 400,000+ miles driving late model Chevy pickups. Heck, my 2006 still has the original brake pads at 111,000 miles! Flat, freeway driving averages about 17.5 mpg, drops to about 13mpg if light duty towing (boat). Very comfortable for long distance driving.
