This Year's Model Updates:

Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

What a truck - the Z-85 with 20" chrome wheels really sets off the dark maroon color.

  • Not a good ride - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Very bouncy rear end, not a pleasant ride even on smooth roads. GM says it is charteristic of this model, nothing they can do. Even with a load in the bed (1000+ lbs.) it still rides stiff. Had a 2004 model that was great, service mgr said they changed the design (both 4x4). I made the mistake of not driving the truck before purchase - assumed it would be the same as my 04. I would not have purchased this truck had I known. Looking for help from GM for 3 months but, to no avail. I switched to Michelin tires, some help but, still wears me out to drive long distances.

I need a truck. Three kids,so I needed a 4 door. I pull a boat, so I needed a truck that can haul the kids and a boat. This truck does it all day and its a cool truck too. I can still go to the cruise nights with it too!!

What a looker this truck is with the 20" chrome wheels, maroon, extended cab, side rails and step bars. WOW - I was a GMC fan until I saw this in the showroom and had to have it. The deals are just too awesome and the vehicle is fabulous. I got the 3.23 rear end with the 5.3 and it goes 52 mph at 1,100 RPM - mileage TBD Now the bad side, the 20" tires and wheels ride terribly. If you get the HD, it is exacerbated even more. Seems almost like a roller coaster ride over even the most minor bumps. The dealer said it would go away in 500 miles, but I certainly have my doubts. Any others experiencing the same problem with this wheel upgrade package? Strongly recommend the vehicle

  • Excellent Value - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This replaces my Toyota Truck. Looked at Ford, Dodge, and Toyota. The Ford did handle and ride better, but the Silverado provides more backseat space for passengers (ext cab) and does better with gas mileage. Seemed quicker, too. I surved others on reliability and found the newer Silverados to be very good. Interior is fine--I bought a truck, not a luxury car, afterall. Very good blend of performance, comfort, MPG, toughness, pracicality and price.

  • Chevrolet 1500 V6 Long Bed, Work Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I purchased this truck to complete home projects which I am working on. It is a two wheel drive with a standard transmission. This truck has an excellent ride and surprising power from the V6 engine. My biggest surprise has been the 20 mpg I am averaging. Ill take the fuel efficiency over a V8 engine any day. The cab is quiet, without much wind/road noise at highway speeds. I also like the floor shifter, although it becomes awkward with three passengers. Turning radius is excellent. It is a good-looking truck as well. I would highly recommend this tuck to someone that simply needs a regular, long-bed pick up truck without all the bells and whistles.

If you want a real truck that can work, haul the kids, tow the boat and look good while your doing it--- This is the right pick. Just make sure you have a gas card because you will find yourself always wanting to go for a ride.

  • Good truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Ive now owned my Z71 for a little over a year and in general, Im quite pleased. The engine runs beautifully and sounds as good as it did on day one. The interior and exterior look great with minimal maintenance. We only have one child, and this truck serves as the family vehicle, which it does pretty well. Frankly, with a baby seat in the middle of the back seat, safety for my infant is not a worry and it fits nicely.

  • First Class Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

First when you look at this truck it says top of the line. Then it says power. The handling of this truck is almost perfect. The seats fit like a glove. The ride is like no other truck Ive ever driven before. And when I pass by people look and stare. That SS emblem says it all - top of the line Chevy Silverado. Some people says SS but i say SSS.
