This Year's Model Updates:

Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

  • I love it! - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Traded in my 2004 ZO6 for the SS. WOW, it is the best of both worlds. I can load the Harley and hook up the boat and off I go. I recommend this truck to everyone. I have all the comforts of a high end Caddilac and the performance of a sports car. It does drink gas but thats the price you pay for performance. Make sure to upgrade to the Bose and XM, you just cant beat it.

  • What a great pickup truck, made for work - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought this truck in April 2005 with 6,850 miles on it and broke 50,000 miles this October. No problem other than a brake light. I change the oil and it runs. I only have the 4.3L but it can still haul the loads. I get about 17-19 in town and 19-23 on the highway with the air on. The truck has great passing power, and the limited slip is nice when offroad even though its just a 2wd. Bulletproof drivetrain.

  • Good Truck made Better - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I owned a 1999 Silverado LT ext. cab, and found it to be comfortable and dependable. The 2005 has several improvements, mainly dual AC controls, On Star, satelite radio, redundant radio controls, 4th door, but basically the same truck. Turning radius is improved also. Mileage has averaged 17, good for a full sized truck. I drove a Dodge and liked the way it handled, but afraid of the mileage as Ive never known anyone with a Hemi that was satisfied with aspect. New truck is quieter, more solid body. Received favorable comments on color (Sport Red Metallic) and lt. gray leather combination.

Best truck I have ever owned! Biggest guts for a 6cyl. I have driven! Only flaw is hates snow! This truck would get stuck in flurries. Does great in rain and corners like a bike, almost. But snow is not our friend we are finding out!

Brand new, but so far so good. Third Chevy Ive owned, and the best one yet. If your looking for an off-road truck, this one will take you where you want to go.

  • 2005 Chev Crew Cab Short Box 4X4 Z71 - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This truck is one of the best designed Chevy trucks I have owned. Everyone I take for a ride likes the 4 doors and roominess. The comfort is better then most cars I have driven. The match of crew cab and short (58" bed) is a perfect blend for my use. The 5.3L coupled with the limited slip 3.42 axle is good on mileage and acceleration. The fuel tank is large enough to get me where I need to go with minimal stops at the outrageously priced gas pumps. All in all, this truck was a hit even with some complaints that I had / have.

Bought the Chevy a few months ago, and just love it. Havent had a problem with it yet, knock on wood. Real fun to drive.

  • American Top 3 - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This vehicle rides and handles much better then any of the competions vehicles I road tested! I think Chev. outdid themselves in this model truck. I will buy another GM truck. It handles great on the road, has a quick response, and can pull down a house.

  • New toy - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I am still in AWE over the fact that a Crew Cab 4x4 w/ a 5.3L and 4.10 gears can get 15.5 MPG off the showroom floor.

  • One nice truck... - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

my past three vehicles have been SUVs 2 Tahoes and 1 Denali. Some may say that going to a Silverado is a down grade and I say your wrong! This truck is incredible to say the least. The Crew cab gives you the interior room of any SUV and it still has a 5 1/2 ft. bed to haul stuff in. The Ride w/ the Z71 package is amazing, especially when Im pullin a 24 box trailer w/ the 5.3L passing every Hemi and Triton is sight. Best buy in quite awhile.
