This Year's Model Updates:

The Silverado gets a makeover this year that includes a new front fascia and revised side moldings and taillights. Top-of-the-line models get power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators. On the inside, the Silverado is the first full-size pickup to offer a Bose stereo system and XM Satellite Radio. The instrument panel and center console have been redesigned, and Chevrolet has added new seats, a more comprehensive driver information center and a dual-zone climate control system. For increased safety, Silverados now feature a standard front-passenger-sensing system and dual-stage airbags. On the hardware side, all 4.3-liter V6-equipped Silverados and California-emission V8s are now ULEV-certified, while electronic throttle control is now standard on all V8 engines. The Autotrac four-wheel-drive system has been modified for less intrusiveness at low speeds, and the brake system received upgrades that provide better pedal feel and improved overall performance.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

  • Very happy with 03 Silverado - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Ive had only one minor problem with my truck, more of a nuisance actually. The steering shafts tenon-and-spline compression joint requires additional grease packing to minimize some minor knocking noises on bumpy roads. Overall, a solid, reliable vehicle.

Sheet metal is very thin. Vehicle get dents from acorns falling onto hood and roof when parked under oak trees. (Had to cut down one of our trees to stop further damage) Installed a truck rack which extended over the cab, and this caused airflow problems resulting in the roof vibrating. Had to modify the rack to stop the vibration. Dealer has had vehicle in many times for repairs. The most serious being failed front hub at 37,000 miles and power steering pump replaced at 42,000 miles. Also, the windshield wipers would not turn off. If key is left in ignition in the off position and vehicle is reentered and started, the chime starts ringing and stays on. You must turn it off, remove the key, and then reinsert the key and start it again. I will never buy another Chevy truck. Going back to Ford.

This truck has 4 wheel drive and gets 18 mpg running around town. Much better than my 2000 Ford f150 two wheel drive which got 17 mpg. Have had no trouble and love the off road capabilitys. The Firestone tires are about to be replaced at 50000 miles, again much better then the Ford.

  • Love This Truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I opted for the 4.8L V8 - wanted the 5.3 but cost $1400 more. Very happy with the smoothness and delivery of the 275 HP from this motor - has more than enough oomph! for what I use it for (hauling people/stuff to and from games/home depot, occasional towing) and Im getting better gas mileage than my 3.0L V6 95 4Runner got. Excellent comfort/room for six. All smiles, no complaints yet.

  • Best Little Pick Up For Your Money - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Aside from being appealing to the eye, the Silverado rides like a luxury car. The interior is luxurious comfort and all controls are within easy reach. The stability is unsurpassed for a truck in this catagory. The engine is powerful, smooth and quiet running. Using the 4 wheel drive is simple and smooth. Ive been off road in mine and it goes through anything, mud, gravel, standing water. All in all I highly recommend this vehicle. It will turn everybodys head and keep you on the road every day.

  • Silverado SS - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Rather pricey, but it has every gadget in the Chevy parts bin. The only thing missing is excess power I wanted. Sadly that is still Fords domain. There is plenty of power, great cornering and AWD for sure traction. The ride is firm but smooth and generally comfortable. There is a harmonic bouncing on some concrete freeways. Cab noise is very low. The rear view mirror is a bit low for me, blocking forward view at the horizon line. The sun visor in the side position, blocks too much of my view left. The truck has a solid feel to it and I have found no flaws in the exterior metal work or paint. The styling is well suited for the SS and looks great.

  • Smoking SS - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I traded in a 2002 chevrolet extreme, on my new ss. Gas mileage has suprised me its been getting about 17.8 in the city. This truck attracts so much attention people almost drive into the side of you, or rear end someone else. trying to figure out what kind of truck it is, and who is driving it.
