This Year's Model Updates:

The Silverado gets a makeover this year that includes a new front fascia and revised side moldings and taillights. Top-of-the-line models get power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators. On the inside, the Silverado is the first full-size pickup to offer a Bose stereo system and XM Satellite Radio. The instrument panel and center console have been redesigned, and Chevrolet has added new seats, a more comprehensive driver information center and a dual-zone climate control system. For increased safety, Silverados now feature a standard front-passenger-sensing system and dual-stage airbags. On the hardware side, all 4.3-liter V6-equipped Silverados and California-emission V8s are now ULEV-certified, while electronic throttle control is now standard on all V8 engines. The Autotrac four-wheel-drive system has been modified for less intrusiveness at low speeds, and the brake system received upgrades that provide better pedal feel and improved overall performance.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

The 4.3 V6 is a total disaster when it comes to engines. No power and poor fuel milage. Hey, I could have gotten a V8! Other than that, its a nice truck. My wifes Corvette gets to 60MPH in about 4 seconds and tops out at 176 MPH. ON trips, weve gotten as high as 33.5 MPG. Around town, she gets22-27.

I have over 110,000 miles on my p/u and have had only one part break ($25 U-joint + 1 hour of my time to replace). Id say thats great reliability! Still runs close to as strong as when I bought it and can pull a loaded trailer (roughly 5,000 lbs) with no problems.

  • I saw a Dodge SRT10 in the Ditch! - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is a great truck. I hope they continue to make it because I want a new one every 3 years. I chose the SS because of the All Wheel Drive and Extended Cab. Sure a Dodge SRT10 maybe faster at the top end but not off the line. My AWD hooks up and Im out of there while the Dodge sits and spins. And lets see the Dodge forge snow and ice! Not gonna happen. And after I beat the snow storm and make it to town, I can throw plenty of food and beer behind the seats (Extended Cab!) and still get up to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. The exhaust note is phenomenal. The transmission shifts as smooth as the one in my Mercedes E420. This truck rocks!

  • 1ST CHEVY PURCHASE SINCE 1978 - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Since 1983I have purchased imports primarily and been VERY happy w/them. Then in 93" made the huge mistake of buying a Ford, or should I say S**T. Purchased my 03" Chevy last fall; overall EXTREMELY pleased. I live very close to my work, and we use the wifes auto mostly so I dont have many mileson it, but overall truck is great. Only problems have been the radio; total crap! and one-time prob with guages going dead.

  • Silverado SS: Excellent all around truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I picked up my Silverado SS a week ago today and I am very pleased I decided on this truck. Yes, the Lightning is faster (how many Lightning owners actually have gone 140MPH?)but this truck balances performance, comfort and useability better than anything else available today. I am thoroughly impressed with the build quality and design. The paint is outstanding, the interior details are spot on and the creature comforts are better than expected. The Bose stereo is crisp and clear. You get quite a few lucks in this truck and to be honest, thats something I like. I traded a 2001 Corvette ZO6 for my SS and Im glad I did. Bottom line: Im a happy SS owner.

So far I have no complaints. It is a very comfortable ride, I get 16-17 mpg city and 20 mpg highway with the 4.8 engine. I pull a 30ft camper with no problems at all. I think overall the Silverado is an excellent truck. My only complaint would be the cheap paint GM uses.
