Overview & Reviews
Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
- Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

11,000 Mile Rundown - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By ChevyGuy - March 4 - 2:16 pmI must say that I am extremely happy that I bought my Silverado before GM decided to make them ugly for the 06 model year. The truck is doing fantastic. It is a joy to drive and has little malfunction. The transmission seems a little unsure but functions nonetheless. The mileage is good for the L33 engine and has plenty of range with the 26gal tank. The standard bridgestone dueler tires will throw all the rocks they come across so some ruberized undercoating wouldnt be a bad idea. I highly recommend the Z71 package, it came in really handy in about 14 inches of surface slop during the 05 whitetail season. Its a great truck overall, I cannot complain.

Happy with my Silverado - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Carmel Beetle - February 26 - 12:53 amThis is my third Silverado. It is the best built and best riding of them all. It seems so much tighter and quieter than the 99 model. The ride cannot be beat. I love the rear door opening on the drivers side.

Honest Truth - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Nathan - January 5 - 8:26 amThis is the 2nd Silverado I have had. The new one is merely a lower mileage upgrade with more warranty. It is a great truck with no real huge problems except... the linkage in the tranny doesnt drop all of the time when you come to a complete stop from about 60mph. Also, the stock tires throw rocks like crazy!! I am a die-hard chevrolet guy though and this is the price that you pay for being brand loyal. I think overall, the truck is a good buy but just make sure you purchase the extended warranty if you are planning on keeping the truck. You wont regret it when something fails on you.

Chev Z71 Crew Cab 2005 - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Truck Buyer - October 30 - 8:00 pmVehicle is very comfortable on long and short trips. 4X4 has gotten me through off road terrain as well as some fairly deep snow! Family feels very safe in this truck!

Great Truck! - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By DJ - August 24 - 2:33 pmI purchased an 05 4x4, extended cab, WT, in April. I think its a great truck. I was impressed by the standard features (e.g. dual climate control, 4 wheel ABS, etc..) It rides great on the highway...I drove it from NY to the Rocky Mountains and was never uncomforable at all...thats a lot of driving. The engine is impressive (about 300hp). Its got plenty of power and has been getting decent gas mileage (for a truck).

Best Truck Ive Owned - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Bruce B. - July 26 - 12:13 pmIve owned a few Ford trucks and one Dodge truck. The ride of those doesnt compare to the smoothnest of the Chevy Silverado crew cab. Smooth ride, roomy interior. Nothing rattles or squeaks. Its just a very well put together truck.

Best Truck Yet - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Roy - May 20 - 7:23 amI have owned both Dodge and Ford trucks and they just do not compare with the ride, Quality, and dependability of the Chevy. It has more romm then the competiton and the 1500 performs like a 2500. My last chevy had 275,000 miles on it. I think this truck is far better than any other truck I have ever owned.

Could not believe it - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By rks - May 1 - 8:20 pmI was going to buy an F-150, Toyota, or Nissan full size. When I began to compare I could not get over the size, comfort and fuel economy of the Silverado compared to the others. Best in fuel economy. I use the truck to commute and do small hauls. I average 18.5 hotshoting and 21 mpg on the road. I bought Chevy 20" rims and put a color coded bed cover and does it look great. All others could not touch the economy, not even Toyota. The wind and road noise in the others was annoying. We use the truck more than the car. The 4.8 has incredible power.
