Overview & Reviews
For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
- Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

Great Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Eddie - November 8 - 11:36 amLove the truck. Traded in my 04 EXT for the 4 door. I am a plain guy that doesnt need a fancy interior. It is a truck to a fashion statement. I get good fuel economy and it runs great. Comfortable ride. Buy American.

Improved - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By kurb - September 4 - 11:46 pmI am very pleased with the smooth ride in the 06 crew cab. I had a 2000 Silverado and it wasnt nearly as smooth of a ride. Very strong engine. Sound system is great. Very comfortable seating.

VortecMax pkg Rocks!! - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Happy in MI - July 17 - 12:46 amI have the LT3 Crew Cab with the 6.0L V8. 345 hp and still get 15 mpg with everyday driving. This is my second Silverado. I had a 2001 LS Ext Cab short box w/5.3L V8 and had 0 problems in the 62,000 miles/3 yrs I had it. This one I have only had a month but I am very pleased with my purchase.

"Heartbeat of America" - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Dusty - February 12 - 3:43 pmThis Chevy truck has the 5.3 liter V8- more fun than I could have imagined- and is the replacement for a 2005 Chevy Silverado that I totalled on my way to work when a 2500# cow decided to cross the road in front of me. It was all about 2 seconds of ABS; 1 second of airbag and I walked away with minor bruises. You bet I got another Chevy truck ( more bells and whistles this time) and I can pound up any of the mountain roads around here without breaking a sweat. Quiet, comfortable for long drives; avg. mpg 20 - sweet truck and a definite "keeper".

2006 Silverado Like a Rock - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Nolan - June 9 - 11:30 pmMy pickup has 55k miles now and its great. Great gas mileage in town about 15-16 mpg with the 4.8 L V8. 18 mpg highway-interstate. Good power and get up and go. Good room for an ext cab and the fold up seat is nice. No problems towing anything or getting around off-road, this baby never gets stuck. Very smooth and quiet on the highway for a truck.

The Best For the Buck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By FordConvert - January 9 - 4:36 pmI drove every truck on the market when I was shopping. Started with the Ford (screen name) then the Nissan, then Dodge, then Toyota and finally Chevrolet (same as gmc). The Chevy rode the best, had the quietest ride, the best gas mileage, and the looks were 2nd only to Ford. I almost went with the 5.3 engine, but for the money, the 4.8 is plenty capable. Name any other company that will sell you a true crew cab (not a Dodge quad which is a disguised extended) with a V-8 and decent equipment for 23,315 + TT&L. It wont happen. So not only is it by far the most comfortable, it is easily the best buy. And after a little research I found out the Chevy is #1 in resale value (just a plus).

Excellent replacement for a stolen Ram - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By badfbob - December 20 - 6:26 pmTruck runs and looks great! I chose this one over the crew cab due to increased ride height. The ride height on mine compares evenly with a Z71. Nice, supple ride and handling, even with the stock 17" Generals on standard chrome rims. Getting great gas mileage (17MPG in mixed driving), even with the 3.73 rear end. Thats a 25-30% increase over my stolen Hemi Ram!

1500 Silverado - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Drew - May 27 - 3:26 amI owned an F150 prior to buying a 1500 Silverado. The ride of the F150 does not even come close to the ride of the Silverado, the 1500 is much smoother, quieter, and generally a more comfortable ride. I am extremely happy with the Silverado 1500.
