This Year's Model Updates:

Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

  • Poor Build Quality - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Not very satisfied. It was a nice ride at first, but after it gets broken in it becomes like a tank and things start falling apart. The "like a rock" statement is long gone and I will never own another Chevy truck again if this is their new standard. My 86 pickup lasted well over 200,000 miles with no major problems but apparently you cant expect the same quality anymore.

  • Electrical nightmare - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This truck is a lemon. The heater control has been replaced. The 4 wheel drive system has a new dash switch, transfer case switch and control module and it still puts itself into 4x4. I would not recommend a Chevrolet to anybody. Also the radio will not turn on at times. The display works but there is no audio.

  • Worst Chevy Ever - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought and payed for this Silverado thinking it would be a nice truck since I paid over 20k for it. Very basic no extra nothing and the ride was really bad. It started wiggling at 50mph! My wagon had a better ride. I was so disgusted that I let them have it back! Another ex-Chevy owner.

Chevrolet has no quality in this truck. Intermediate shaft changed 3 times. Gear assembly changed 5 times, power steering pump changed twice. Front end sounds like it is getting ready to fall off. Tires had to replaced at 15,000 miles due to terrible front end.

It rides great. Big but nimble. Underpowered on the highway. Theres a constant pinging at 70 mph and up thats very annoying. The tow package is perfect for around town, perfectly bad for the highway

75,000 miles on Vehicle: Replaced brakes at 15,000 miles, 40,000 miles, and 70,000 miles (I have not historically been hard on breaks); Replaced Torque Converter and rebuilt transmission at 40,000 miles; Replaced Intermediate steering shaft at 40,000 miles, 60,000 miles, and 75,000 miles (grease repacked at 30,000 and 70,000). This is apparently a known issue with many models of GM vehicles. Replaced front wheel hub assemblies at 65,000 miles; Transmission clunk while turning at low speeds and accelerating from stop since truck was new. Told by two dealerships that this was a known issue that cannot be resolved. Cannot recommend this vehicle.

  • Should not have bought this. - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Should have gone with anyone but GM. Typical of the brand, speedometer doesnt work and no recall, service air bags notification on, needs third windshield, passenger door doesnt shut right, on third thermostat(non dealer this time), transmission slips but rarely, dealer tires didnt last any time at all. Little interior storage, glovebox doesnt hold much, will have to replace center seat with console storage. Good on gas mileage but V6 underpowered, computer wonky sometimes. Never been contacted about recall items.

  • Solid ride - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Needs some work, a good mechanic can bring this truck up to a great condition and get another 100k out of it.

  • My 10. Chevrolet truck,most fun to drive - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

In general I like this truck, however the intake manifold gasket blew after 30000 miles, the chrome was pealing from the grill after 35000 miles the suspension bushings are squeaking even after they are lubricated.Drivers seat is getting soft on the outside. I hope GM will make improvements on its next model.
