Overview & Reviews
For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
- Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

Shaky Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jim - June 29 - 11:23 pmHave a 2006 1500 Work Truck. The transmission went out at 7,000 miles. The heater blower wiring burned up at 8000 miles and again at 22,000. The exhaust has a vibration at 40 to 45 mph and the dealer said live with it. Another dealer repaired the wiring correctly and is sure he can fix the vibration. This is a 4.3 V-6 and I would say there is a major difference between service departments in Austin Texas.

2006 Chev Silverado - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By buyToyota - June 2 - 8:33 pmi really believe there should have been recalls on this truck. All of the following repairs were needed in the first 36 months i owned this truck: ABS went out; front axle seals continue to leak; rotors were replaced on both sides; nearly lost control of the truck on the highway when the front wheel bearings gave out; the 4 wheel drive automatic switch broke and shut down the 4x4 function; the drivers side door panel came loose and the entire panel had to be replaced; the plastic hinge for the center console broke off, etc etc.. Again, i believe that there should have been or should be a safety recall on this truck. Buyer beware. Thank goodness this is a leased vehicle and i return it.

Overall quality is lacking - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Dave - September 6 - 4:26 amThis was my second Chevy pickup, my first being a 57 stepside. Since that old Chevy, I had evidently been spoiled by a few Fords, two Nissans and a Dodge. No complaints on any of those other pickups, but this Chevy mustve been a lemon. Everything from the battery to the temperature control to the transmission gave me trouble in the 9 months that Ive had it.
