This Year's Model Updates:

Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

  • Hamronic Vibration Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is my 5th Chevrolet Truck since 1991, and it has given more trouble than the previous four put together. The dealer has not been able to fix any of the three major problems and Chevrolet will not take the vehicle back. The truck constantly vibrates at highway speeds, and the harmonic vibration greatly exaggerates minor bumps in the road. New tires have not made one bit of difference. Chevrolet is well aware of the problem, (calls it "BEAMING"). The truck has developed a whine in the differential, which the dealer cannot correct,(tells me it is normal) and the brakes shudder, which the dealer has tried to fix on two occasions without success. This will be my last GM vehicle ever.

  • A dissappointment - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

After having owned Chevy/GMC trucks most of my life, most of them used, I looked forward to a new, fully equipped version. I was disappointed in the quality of this vehicle. The roof is so thin, it "oilcans" constantly if the wind blows. Multiple trips to the dealer were required to quiet most of window the leaks. Repairs have been required to the drive train, the electrical system, the brakes and the steering system. All after the minimal warranty expired. Im trading this one in. Too much attention to the excellent bells and whistles and not enough on reliability and "truckness".

  • Worst Truck Ever - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I hate this truck. I bought this truck Brand New. Have had it for 3 yrs now. The day after I bought it the ac blower resister, blower motor and resistor pigtail burn out... at 34 miles. At around 14000 miles, the ignition coil goes out. The list goes on and on. Now have 51000 on it and I have replaced the ac electrical parts 5 times, one tranny, starter, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, and countless bulbs. And the instrument cluster went out at around 39000. GM still refuses to replace mine. Been over a year and a half without speedo. Last but not least, the spare tire carrier got jammed. Had to use a cutting torch. Will never buy another. EVER!!!! Next one will be a Toyota .

  • Bad Front Suspension - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

On the test drive I noticed a jolting feeling in the front end. Salesman said no problem, probably shocks and it is under warranty. Come to find out they have had several other like trucks in for the same thing. They have changed shocks, balanced tires, even replaced springs. On amedium smooth roads it is a constant irritation. Aaround curves it is a challenge to keep on the road;. At the right speed on a long bridge it is a fight to keep the front-end from bouncing out of control. now they (GM) say it is normal for this truck to ride like that. That is straight from GMC. Also the A/C has a constant gurgling sound. GM said that was normal also.

  • Harmonic Vibrations - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

After owning four Chevrolet trucks, the fifth one was a horrible experience. The treatment from GM was nothing but criminal and stupid. I took the truck back within the first 500 miles because of a vibration similar to an unballanced tire . They never could correct this problem. Their way of avoiding warrenty terms was to state the vibration problem, rear end whine, and stuttering brakes, were a normal characteristic and therefore they refused repairing or rebuying the vehicle. After buying 14 GM vehicles in the past 16 years, I will never buy another. No wonder GM has lost 6% of its market in the last 5 years. Why would anyone believe their new 100000 mile warranty is anything but a farce?

  • Poorly made truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

I only have 1100 miles on my truck and it already has major problems! Ive been into the dealership several times and they say theres nothing they can do and GM wont do anything either. The interior is CHEAP, the climate control has electrical problems, the truck leans noticibly to one side,& the transmission has major issues. It clunks & slams into gear like a 20 yr old truck. The leather has more defects than I can count. I am very sorry I bought this truck. I feel like I am stuck with a lemon.

  • dont buy a chevey truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

I bought a 2005 chevey silverado crew cab with 52k on it and have had one problem after another. All problems were descibed as very common to fix buy the chevey dealer. I have a very noisy rattling from under the sterrling colum also rattling from the a/c vents and lots of interior lights going out all the time. The dealer told me to fix all these common problems it would be about 1000$. These problems are small but every expensive to fix. I have also had problems with the factory cd player/radio making a buzzing noise threw all speakers and the cd player doesnt even work.

  • Straggler of the sport truck market. - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

In comparison with the other sport trucks out on the market today the performance is terrible, and when paying $38,570 and seeing a lightning thats roughly $5,000 less it kinda makes you think "why isnt my truck performing that good after all I paid more money?"
