This Year's Model Updates:

The 2009 Chevrolet Malibu undergoes a number of key changes. The six-speed automatic becomes more widely available with the four-cylinder engine, and the four is now standard instead of the V6 on the top-level LTZ trim. Bluetooth connectivity also debuts as an option, while stability control becomes standard across the lineup. Power-adjustable pedals are no longer offered.

Pros:
  • Strong performance from V6, excellent ride and handling balance, roomy cabin, comfortable seats, high crash test scores, solid fit and finish.
Cons:
  • Some subpar cabin materials, no rear center armrest, fussy manual-shift feature, a few key luxury features are unavailable.

  • Really nice car! - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
    By -

We traded in our 03 Malibu LS with 104,000 miles on it. No problems with the car, just miles. Our 09 Malibu 2LT is really nice. I cant get over how much better it handles and how quiet it is. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a well built fun to drive car. Chevy has really put together a nice vehicle!

  • Problem, but the no problems - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

The problem was that at 15hrs. after taking delivery of the car? It had to take a week off in the shop waiting for a transmission part to come from Detroit before I got it back. Since then though, its been a great car. I average about 28 real-world mpg. The 4 banger is more than adequate to get me down the road. The 6 speed was a really ..REALLY needed addition to the 09’ line-up. And it does work well, though a little meandering at times with gear selection. The car is quiet and comfortable. All in all? I’m happy with the purchase.

  • 2009 LT2 4 cylinder 6 spd. automatic - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

We had a 2007 GM with a V6 so we were a little worried the 4 cyliner would not have enough power. To our surprise the 4 coupled with the 6 speed automatic has enough power but is also very quiet. The downshifts are subtle. Car runs 70 to 75 easily, gets excellent gas mileage getting 25 average with mostly intown so far and its only got 450 miles on it. I think when on a trip car will easily get in the mid 30 MPG range after full break in. Car is very comfortable

  • 1000 miles and radio problems - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
    By -

My XM radio is not receiving a signal, the malibu is in the shop for three days to fix - I have 1200 miles on the car, not happy. The lastest is they may have to replace radio - more time in the shop. The four cylinder, six speed automatic transmission is great. I like the car - even with the radio issue. Hard to believe but I would strongly recommend this Chevy to all. I test drove many cars - this car is as good, I believe better than: Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda and etc. I wanted to buy American and thought I might have to accept less - the Malibu is a great car - really. The gas mileage is excellent for the cars size and weight. All will like the mpg - very quiet. GM lives!

  • A contender - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

So far so good! Real happy with purchase. V6 does the job. Exterior came a long way. Interior very classy and high end looking. Its about time GM became competitive with Chevy sedans.

  • Cant believe this is a Malibu - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
    By -

I owned a 2001 Chevy Malibu before this, got it used & absolutely hated it. Did some research into buying a Nissan Altima or Honda accord & every major review had exceptional things to say about the redesigned Mailbu. I fought the urge to check it out for months before I really compared it & stacked it up against the others. The interior & exterior design is amazing. Friends have said they cant believe theyre in a Chevy, its extremely luxurious inside the LT2 model. Ride is smooth, extremely quiet interior, HUGE trunk & fold down back seats. Comes with tons of standard options not seen on other vehicles like Auto start, etc. I am EXTREMELY happy with this car, cant believe its a MALIBU!

  • Malibu LTZ - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

My Malibu LTZ is an outstanding vehicle! The styling and performance of the vehicle go far beyond the the sticker price. It looks and drives more like a luxury vehicle.

  • Brake Woes and other defects - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
    By -

First week problems with the brakes, noisy, spongy. Dealership didnt take the wheels off to look. 3 trips later finally heard the noise, next trip replaced the drums. Wheel alignment out on all 4 wheels. After fixing still pulls to the left. Found out there was a recall on brakes and a transmission problem. Was told to bring it in to fix the trans problem and they would look at the alignment again. When the trans problem was fixed - asked about the alignment. Was told we were making things up and escorted out of the building. Contacted gm in Detroit who sound interested but dont hold out much hope they will do anything. Wont buy another gm product again.

  • More car for the money - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
    By -

I bought my wife a 2009 Camry XLE in the fall and wanted to buy myself something different when our van died. I test drove the Accord, Altima, and Malibu. The Malibu was the quietest and smoothest ride of the three. Also, when it came down to price I felt like I got more car for my money. I bought the 2LT model.

  • Good Job GM! This is more like it! - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

Just plain and simple, I wanted to buy an American car again, and in my opinion, this is one of the best American or Import cars I have seen. Outstanding build quality, in and out. A lot of car for the money, great incentives right now. Anyone considering a mid-size car, or any size for that matter, really needs to take a look at the Malibu. Lets give the guys from Detroit another chance America! Theyre finally trying to get it right. Hope it transcends to the rest of Chevys line up in the future.
