  • Did its job - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Got this car in 07 with 20,000 miles. Besides replacing the head gasket this car has been relatively problem free. It had piston slap since 80,000 miles but it never seemed to do anything besides make noise. It lasted until last fall when at 205,000 some things finally started breaking. I could still get 32 mpg highway driving at 200,000 miles. The common AC problem can easily be fixed if you search it on Youtube. Once I got rid of this malibu I went I got an 02. Overall Im satisfied with vehicle it did its job.

  • Love the car, but have had better - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Bought this car in early 2011 for 1000 bucks with 148,000 miles on it.....once I dropped a couple hundred into it was like a gift from the heavens. Car drives very well, excellent gas mileage about 23 combined, very dependable, torquey V6 engine. Has a very boring interior design and the exterior started losing paint and rusting very badly after only 2 months of driving. The engine then melted through both intake manifold gaskets and sprang a very bad leak, The alternator blew and the fuel line began leaking. Luckily a few days in my garage and alot of tears and sweat she ran like a dream again. Recommend as a great first car or just as a daily driver.

  • Best used car Iv had - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

I got my 01 Malibu 2 years ago with only 45,000 miles on it and havnt had any big issues with it other than my AC / heater going out at 80k miles but that was a $30 fix that took me a year to do. My lighter outles have gone out and the engine keeps doing a tugging issue but Im sure its the area I live in. Other than that just normal wear. I will say they dont do so well on climate change though. I brought it from NE winters to California summers and hit a speed bump and cracked a tie rod but that was $6 to fix. Now at 110k its in perfect condition. I love it.

  • You get what you pay for :) - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

I bought my Malibu with the only issue of needing new intake manifold gaskets. It would run hotter than the half mark when at idle, but go back down when driving. Within the first week of owning the car (I am the third owner, previous owner military)the power window switch for the drivers side window went out. I can no longer roll down my window. My ABS light comes on sometimes and my Theft System light acts up. I also cannot install an aftermarket CD player without a special kit. I only paid $1800.00 for it and cant complain too much. Im trading it off for an Nissan Xterra and more than likely wont buy another American car again.Ive had nothing but bad luck with them.

  • Worth it - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

i bought this car with 40k miles in 2004 and have had some of the same problems as others. coolant leak, but i did a total flush and leak repair and have had problems since. some electrical problems flasher, cigarette lighter kept blowing fuse. i now have 139k miles on her and i have no real complaints. i think this car has been a great car and i still feel like i can take long trips with confidence. so far this year i have taken it to south fl from north Carolina 5 times without any problems. I get about 30 mpg on high way and not sure city but around 24.

  • Unfortunate Misconception - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Decent car with good engine. Unfortunately the theft system is a definite problem. I have had to replace the intake timing gaskets and am looking to replace the head gaskets. The cooling system has problems operating with the Dex-cool additive that is recommended under warranty. Decent gas mileage 22-27mpg mixed. I cannot say that I will buy this model again.

  • Bunch of Small Problems - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

I got this car 2 years ago from a Rental place, and it had 44,000 miles on it. It now has 63,000 miles on it, and things have been acting up. The passenger front and back windows dont work with the drivers side control, the heat/AC doesnt come on until the 4th and 5th setting, the hazard lights/blinkers dont work at least once a day, and Ive replaced the brakes twice. The ABS gives me a lot of trouble in the winter, it pulses and the brakes disengage--- very dangerous! Lastly, the coolant seems to be used up EXTREMELY quickly-- not sure what the problem is there.

  • Not Bad - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

I heard a lot of complaints about brakes, but Ive only replaced my pads once in the last 40,000 miles. Gas mileage is okay--we get about 22 around town, but it is a V6. On the freeway we get about 30. The car has had some electrical problems. The blinker sound would continually go on, and we had to replace the entire blinker module in the steering column that cost $300 and happened around 75,000 miles. Besides that, it is the only repair we have done. A couple of times the car has disabled it self due to a faulty theft system. It takes 10 minutes to let you back in. I still dont regret buying the vehicle. Bang for the buck it has served us pretty well.

In 80,000 miles had to replace the theft sensor. Only repair to date except for a battery that was under warranty. Plenty of pep and excellent mileage (32 mpg on 635 mile trip to florida averaging 80 miles an hour).

  • Good American Car - 2001 Chevrolet Malibu
    By -

Well guys. I loved my Malibu. Sure the electrical aspects were king of funky, so roll down the window. My engine never failed. The only things I ever had to change was the brakes and the oil. My car had 106000 miles before some lady hit me and totaled my car. I miss it. I wish I still had it. I dont want the money I want my car back.
