This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • 4th Chevy, 2nd Impala - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

What a great car! The ride, handling, interior comfort and design are far superior to my 01 Impala! Acceleration and braking are wonderful, and it has a much stiffer suspesion. Not a sports car, but this car is comfortable, fun to drive, and looks sporty yet elegant. A terrific family car that honors the drivers instincts. Right out of the dealership I am getting 34 MPG on the hightway with AC running! And it takes "Flex Fuel" to boot!- I am very satisfied with this vehicle. Chevy has a real hit here.

  • On demand power and high mileage, too. - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Traded my 2000 Impala LS last month on a new 2006 Impala SS. Loved the sporty look of the new chevy. Got a black one with the neutral interior. The dealer said that the neutral interior is hard to get in this model but I just loved the light color. Very classy upscale look. Had no problems with the car. Tons of power when you need it but drive it soft and you will get 30 miles to the gallon. I test drove the LTZ model but I didnt think the 3.9 liter engine performed near as well as 3.8 Buick built engine that the older Impala LS had. Not as much power and lower MPG. Then, I drove the SS and it had the power I wanted with mileage and the sporty look. Drive it and buy it.

If you are looking for a tame economy car your looking in the wrong place. My SS gets 28 mpg on the road, has a great ride, and my friends took one look and knew why I bought it. On mountain highways it has the power to master the steepest grade yet on long straight runs it only fuels four cylinders and the economy is great. Clean lines inside and out, quality throughout, and a real head turner make this performer one of the finest vehicles Ive ever owned.

The car is a lot for the money. Smooth, quiet riding, very good gas mileage. Shopped for other cars, but this car had more room and more for your money. Very pleased with the car.

I just bought a used fleet 2006 Impala from Carmax with 7666 miles. Im thrilled with the car and Carmax. I looked and drove many cars this year mostly via Avis Rental Car while traveling. Malibu and Impala stood out of all other models driven. Almost bought Malibu however found Impala LT with XM radio for less than lowest used malibu price.

This is my first new car purchase in 15 years. I think it is one of the best if not the best for the money in its class. The V6 gives you plenty of power and all around looks are impressive. Plenty of room for 4 or 5 people and very comfortable interior. I love the remote start feature although I have had a problem with it when there is ice on the car. Overall a 10 !

  • Fun to run, but... - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Like most who own this beast, it mostly comes fully loaded and as such is very nice, blah blah blah. But after the initial romance wears off you kind of notice a couple of this and wonder why. First the cheap visors dont go out to the door frame and leave an annoying gap that if youre driving into the sun. No trunk key access, hope to God you never have your remote do dead. The batteries are supposed to be good for 4 years, losing range at 1 year mark. The OEM tires are great and all, but what a sticker shock when the time comes to replace, how about $250+ each! You could get cheaper Goodrich and some others for much less, but if you really like those Goodyears, start saving now.

  • New Impala better than ever - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I traded my 2001 Impala in on a 2006 Impala 2LT. Black w/ ebony cloth interior. The new impala has much better interior dash materials and looks alot better too. The new audio and climate controls are easy to read and understand the the dash is backlit very well.

  • LT3 Impala new buyer - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Former Avalon driver, now in a 2006 LT3 Impala and after the first 300 miles Im impressed. Great dash info display. Smooth ride, comfortable seating, extra room even for a 6th (small) person with the column shifter. I never thought the remote start would be so handy but in a hot parking lot I can step into a cooled down car, nice.

  • Noisy - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I have driven this car 700 miles since 1/3/06. I love the way it looks and its power but I cant stand the road noise. Those reviews that say its quiet and smooth are driving with the radio on, which is what I do now all the time. The brakes are great and being a senior citizen I like the OnStar feature. My last car was a 2003 Impala and what I miss in this car is the large rear window and normal size sideview mirrors of the 03. The rear defroster in the 03 was 3 times better than this new one also. It looks great outside and inside but this will be my last Impala. I got this car because my lease deal was excellent; it definitely wasnt my first choice.
