This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • Love it but hate it - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

I really liked this car when I first got it. It had the looks and the and the styling of a good car. But looks can be deceiving. Since I had this car it had been in the shop more than 15 times and the remote keeps going out cause the modulators keep going out and I dont even want to get started about the problems. All Im gonna say its a bad car with good looks.

I was excited when I first got this Impala, had all the makings of a great car. After living with it for 2 1/2 months I am no longer thinking this is a great car. I have had back to the dealership 4 times so far as the keyless entry and tire pressure system is not working, still is not working. We are going to go for number 5 and a new bulletin that has come out. Also way more wind noise off doors then should be, dealer states it is acceptable per GM standards, not by my standards. Too bad this could have been a great car.

A great car. Reminds me of times past as to performance. Great power from V8 motor. Gas mileage remains below estimated 18 to 28 mpg. Actual about 21 mpg average.

  • My 2nd Impala SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Just purchased an 06 SS Impala Blk on Blk. Its maiden trip was to upstate New Hampshire from Western Mass 5hrs each way. Previously owned a 96 SS. The power is outstanding but the front drive limits the ability to take advantage of the power. The plastic on the doors and dash is similar to my fiances 01 Cavalier, in a word, its cheep. Suspension is more like a Buick than my last SS. I did not feel comfortable on VTs RT 91 above 85mph due to curves. Heated leather seats are adequate, could use a bit more bolstering, but they are fine for me. Get the Bose stereo, I didnt and I regret it. No way the engine gets 28/18 hwy/city mileage, more like 22/13.

  • Cool Riding SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This car still has me amazed with the amount of power that it puts out. I havent been pinned to the seat of a car in a very long time. However the down side the gas mileage isnt no where near its claims. Ive notice that if I breathe on the gas pedal that it has a direct effect to the gas hand on the gas gauge. The temptation of not using all of that power is almost too much!

  • Good for the price - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This is a car you can enjoy not only driving but playing with as well. Plenty of features and solid performance. Manufacturing quality is much lower compared to competitors, specially on trim and metal sheet finish. "You get what you pay for" Hope that Impala will not have any major mechanical failure.

  • Decent vehicle - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Bought this vehicle used. Have had not issues with it. Rides good, gas mileage not the best. Engine has good pick up.

  • Fun to drive - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This is my second Impala. While disappointed with the gas mileage (21 Hwy), it is fun to drive. Great pickup and steering. I upgraded to a sunroof, and the digital dash is easy to read and access. Its comfortable for me at 55" as well as my 6 ft husband. Lots of room inside and a huge trunk. A really fun car to drive.

  • So far, so good - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Performance: only problem is its not so great in stop and go traffic, because gunning it isnt an option. Getting on the highway and driving in open traffic is great. A blast to drive, with the power and handling. Fuel economy is less than desirable, especially with city driving, but to be expected with a big engine. Really not even close to claims. Sharp looking and smooth ride. Luxury & sporty without the cost. Not many issues with build quality or reliability, but before the brake recall it was slow to stop and the shaft replacement was common (had it done twice, 1st time didnt take). Little concerned with warranty coming to an end and this model being the first year for this engine.

  • So long Ford, I have my "Mustang" now! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I ordered a Mustang GT back in Aug. 05, December came and the dealership still could not tell me when it would be built. Wanted a car with "power", drove the SS and that was it! Ive never looked back, what Mustang? This car is a beast. Im 65" and have plenty of room (big selling feature). The power is great, this thing is a lead sled but the V8 moves it effortlessly. Its a straight line car, wontt be taking turns at 100 mph. If you want a car that combines power, some sport, good ride, vast amount of room (up front & in the trunk, back seat a tad tight), and luxury car amenities, then this is a car to look at. I just hope it proves to be reliable, no problems so far!
