Overview & Reviews
The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.
- Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
- Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

Trading Down - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Tom G. - January 5 - 1:06 pmRecently traded in our 2005 Tahoe for the 2006 Impala, the main reason being the price of gas. The Impalas ride, performance and gas mileage are very respectable, as is the interior room. The new look for 2006 puts it right up there with oter cars in its class. Interior nice, but a little on the bland side, as is most Chevys.

3rd Impala - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Dave - November 28 - 10:26 amI have owned three Impalas ranging from 2001 to 2006. Still own all three. I am very pleased with the new 2006 model. Comfortable ride, good gas mileage, very nice interior and exterior improvements. Test drove several cars, still came back to the Impala for overall value.

Everything rocks except Bose - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By quietpro - November 14 - 2:50 amHelped my sister find a car and ended up buying one for myself. Hers is a 3LT, mine an SS. Love the engine, exhaust sound, power, build quality, and functionality. I traded my 02 Monte Carlo SS and my only regrets are the seats and the Bose sound system. The seats lack lateral support and regardless of what source you listen to, there is a hiss at anything less than 50% volume on the Bose system; very frustrating if you want to relax with the volume low.

Love this Impala - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Paul - engineer - October 29 - 8:53 amI bought this car as my everyday, to- and-from work car. Shortly after purchase, I got a work assignment that had me travel out-of-town (175 miles) each week. This car was a delight for that travel. First of all, I get superb gas mileage - better than the EPA estimates. I averaged 32-34 mpg on my out-of-town trips and in my normal commuting (city/freeway mix) I get about 26. Amazing for a car like this! It is very comfortable, quiet and smooth, has plenty of power, and looks and handles well. I got the satellite radio option and use it a lot. The sound system (base model) is great. I love having the built-in hands-free phone. I dont use it a lot, but when I do it is a great feature.

SS with some KICK! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By vette-girl - October 17 - 9:03 pmPurchsed the Impala SS in October 2005, Looked at the 2006 Charger RT Hemi, but I couldnt get past Mopars poor styling on the front end of this vehicle. I think Dodge is staying with the truck look even in the passenger dept. The grille looks like a Dodge Dakota/Ram. Go for the SS. It can really kick some ____ ! So far we luv our Impala 28 mpg. Not bad for a performance car with some room.

Hot SS - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Bob James - September 27 - 10:46 pmThe Chevrolet Impala SS is a fun car to drive. My wife and I just love the new V-8 engine. It is very responsive to all drivind needs. Before this SS, I drove an Impala and my wife a Z-28. This car gives us both what we want in a car. I like the size and comfort and my wife likes the power. With the 06 SS we get the best of both worlds. Way to go, GM.

Great Car - Fun to Drive - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
By Henderson - September 6 - 2:30 pmThis is my first Chevrolet and my first GM product since having complete disappointment in a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am. Chevy has hit the mark with this car. Its fun to drive and very comfortable. The 3.9L engine has plenty of pickup but you lose mpg as a result. Overall, I get about 23 mpg which is still pretty good. The only thing that is annoying is a clicking noise that comes and goes. The service department has not been able to identify where it is coming from.
