This Year's Model Updates:

The Impala receives significant updates for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the Impala's styling with new headlights, taillights and wheels. The SS trim also gets a unique grille this year. Inside, the Chevy car features updated audio systems, a redesigned instrument panel, new seats, standard side curtain airbags and an available fold-flat rear seat. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Impala: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, powerful and efficient engine choices, clean interior styling, standard side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Soft suspension and vague steering detract from handling dynamics, SS has to put its 300 hp through the front wheels.

  • I like it - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

This is my first Impala. I drive over 45,000 miles per year . I wanted better gas mileage over my previous vehicle. I dont quite know if this is the vehicle either . But Im really impressed with everything else , the ride, power, interior . I have the black SS with completly tinted windows WOW. At 3500 miles I believe I can honestly say I get 24mpg on the highway and 18 in town . At this point Im glad I made this purchase.

  • 2006 Impala SS Improved, but ....... - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I bought my SS in October. This is my third Impala and the best by far. I love the car, styling and performance. However, GM cant seem to close the deal on making a car that can compete with the imports. Ive always been a fan of GMs powertrains, but to put a 300hp engine to a dated four speed tranny reaks of cutting corners. Torque steer is a problem The interior. I travel 40,000 miles year so I do like creature comforts along with performance. Full intrumentation would be great to match performance of the car. The HVAC controlls are old school (no LED readout for temps, plus clusmsy dials). The cup holders are big enough either Hopefully GM will get up to speed for 2007.

  • Nice to Drive but with annoying problems - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I have got to admit that the LT/3.9 are easy to drive, peppy, comfortable. With some wrap around mudguards, a bra, it also looks good. I bought the LT loaded, no leather. But even with all options, it did not have an external amp driven sound system, my 2002 LS does, (not the Bose) great sound. This 06 standard system with 6 speakers is sub par. A few annoying trends: Chevy said an engine relay became noisy after a long/hard drive, no fix…. Engine idle is slightly erratic at times, no code? The RF system for the tire monitor, remote start, key fob replaced under war. Like I said, annoying problems but overall I like the car. PS. dont go 7000 miles on the oil or 100000 on trans as they say!

  • Pretty good so far! - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

The interior is much what I expected. The V8 and associated rumble are great! Im not impressed with the handling or braking, but Im kinda chalking that up to its being "just another Impala" - I dont mind terribly. Its fascinating to watch the driver display go from 4cyl to 8cyl. XM Radio is pretty cool, as are the 36! presets. Ditto moonroof, OnStar, steering wheel controls. Cant stand the auto door locks.

  • Disappointed - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Having owned the 2000 Impala I was excited about the new body style of the 2006. While I enjoy the comfort of the car and the drive performance, I have experienced nothing but problems with the ABS/Traction Control System. I have been back and forth to the dealership at least five times and they have replaced the electronic braking module and the rear wheel harness attempting to remedy the problem. To no avail the problem is still occuring intermittently. I love my car, but I hate the problems that I am experiencing. Looks like I will have to trade it in sooner rather than later. Looks like GM is going to lose a valuable customer.

  • Disappointing Gas Mileage - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

A fine looking car inside and out. The small block V8 engine is quick and powerful. The engine does not deliver anywhere near the EPA estimated and GM advertised gas mileage, even when driven ultra-conservatively on long trips.

  • Transmission Blow out 42,000 - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Great looking car for the money. However, I have had a many problems. Keyless entry never work correct and tire sensor. Was in shop a couple of time until fix right. Body work poor has as sections came unalined. Note: all items were fixed at dealers cost. However, my transmission went at 42,000 (all highway). Chevy would not stand behind the transmission even with me only be 6k over in miles. I will tell you not to buy without the extend warranty or you will get screwed by Chevy(3800 fix). PS put in a transmission cooler. I would upgrade brakes as stock has had many recalls (Cheap fix for add performance $700)

  • My Review - 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Overall a decent sedan. A good family car that has good interior features. In all fairness, I am a truck person but the high gas prices influenced me to buy a sedan.

  • Performance and value - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Great value and comfortable car. Smooth and powerful. Great exhaust note too. Not a soulless Japanese import, this vehicle has character. Cant get the V8 performance, OnStar, or fun factor on a Camry or Accord. The downside is the fuel economy (the ratings are a joke, 16 city, 24 highway is more realistic)

  • Big time hassle - 2006 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

This car has been in the shop non-stop since I bought it.First the fuel sensor, then a brake recall, now the dash is acting up-It has been in the shop 6 times for electronic problems. Engine cooling for temp outside of 40 degrees, it was 70. Turn signals broke, dash says no seatbelts on - everyone has belts on. Air bag says off when adult passenger in seat-or was it off-who the heck knows. I love the way this car handles and its comfort, but I am fed up. Data recorder was installed-said replace ignition switch, they did, 8 days later, same problems. Only 8000 miles and in the shop over 6 times-I had planned to keep this car until it dropped, but that has changed.
