This Year's Model Updates:

GM has resurrected the Impala nameplate (a staple in Chevy's lineup from 1959 to the early '80s and then briefly from 1994 to '96 ) and put it on an all-new full-size sedan body that rides on the Lumina front-drive platform. Although the Lumina itself is back for the 2000 model year, Impala will eventually replace it as Chevy's large-car entry to battle the likes of Ford's Crown Victoria, Buick's LeSabre and Chrysler's LH cars.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, big brakes, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, no V8, big front-drive cars rarely sell as well as big rear-drivers.

  • get extended warranty - 2000 Chevrolet Impala

I would suggest getting the additional warranty. Even though I am satisfied with my Impala,I,along with other consumers, had problems with the transmission and sterring columns. Unfortunately after the warranty(3yr- 36m)had expired. I did put an extreme amount of miles on the 1st two years, so that may been the problem

We are very happy with our Impala LS and have had minimal problems with it. Slight rattle after three months, but the dealer fixed and it hasnt been back since. Leather around side air back kept popping off, but fixed by the dealer and problem hasnt returned. After 26 months the altenator shorted out, but was replaced under warranty. The steering wheel was lubed at 27 months for noise. Otherwise no other problems. The car is torch red and receives many compliments from other motorists. Gas mileage is excellent, 17 mpg around town(heavy traffic) and 30 mpg on the highway. The ride is good and the interior and trunk are very roomy.

3.8 liter V-6 engine works well, gives plenty of power for a large car. Very spacious and comfortable.

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 2000 Chevrolet Impala

I bought this car new, and have driven it now 53000 miles. the original Goodyear Eagle tires were noisy, but the replacements (at 40000 miles) are great. Performance is great, interior space is great, and it never has a problem. A few minor glitches were fixed under warranty, and since then it has been trouble free. My other car has over 200,000 miles on it - but I think this one will pass that one easily!

This 2000 Impala LS has been trouble since I brought it. Almost every month in the garage. Front suspension completely replaced, Brakes, rotors, pads at 15,000. I purchased car with 15,000 miles. It is advisable to buy extended warranty.

  • Great Old-School (if FWD) American Sedan - 2000 Chevrolet Impala

Bought this used with 25k on it, put 11k on in 3 months. Great engine, good power/torque. Wish the handling were stiffer, but it is more than adequate for the average family sedan purchaser. The car has incredible acceleration at highway speeds. Smoked a Honda Prelude on a deserted stretch of interstate a month or so ago -- he gave up when I hit 115.Get the leather seats--they are more comfortable and make the car look SOOO much nicer. Its not a luxury sport sedan, but its easily the equal of the Accord, Camry, Taurus.

  • huge, fast car - 2000 Chevrolet Impala

This car was the overhaul best sedan Ive been in. Leg room up front is huge, Im a big guy and can still stretch out. Car is fast, and still gets 23mpg on average for me (chevy says they get 29hwy, but mine gets less). Tires are expensive to replace and my steering makes a crunching sound- also have had small antifreeze leak that they couldnt fix and problems with the car starting. Only have 37k on it, too.

Great mileage - 31 to 31 mpg on highway @ 70 mph. Excellent Styling. Very comfortable. No repairs except rotors and that was at GM expense. Weak front rotors, replace once by GM and now are warped again.
